Check the busted look&listen Xbox360 on www.lazygamer.co.za , man how unreliable are these consoles? How many people here have had their 360 breakdown. Dont own 1 myself but my bro. Does.

Touch wood, but not a single problem yet. :)

Strange that this story is coming up again so much really....

I'll see if I can find out any real information, don't hold your breath though M$ are quite secretive, I am also putting up a poll about this next week after getting some requests....

Just remember those kiosks are mostly first generation 360s. As I've said before, I've been going strong for 6 months under non-ideal circumstances and I've had no issues.

And has your brother's unit broken down as yet? I guess not. I am on my 2nd Xbox 360 now after the first gen broke down 5 months after use. No issues with the 2nd gen one thus far.

In regards to the poll, how can you be sure trolls wont post just for hate-sake? ;)

How do you tell the difference between gen 1 and 2?

Power surge last night caused my xbox to flash the three red rings last night!! I almost had a heart attack!!

Switched it off and on again, and seems to be working fine again!!! Thank G0D!! Played a for couple hours (when I should've been studying) just to make sure everything worked fine ;)

2 more weeks and I'll be playing you ladies on live!! Get ready to kick my ass :D

No, my bros' 360 hasn't kicked the bucket. he's had it 4 close to 6months. I'm not sure abt the 1st/2nd gen status of but i'd assume it 2nd gen as he got it 3wks after SA launch. I'd also assume the busted look&listen 360 would be also 2nd gen. Assumption ofcourse

Just dont understand the eventuality there is with the breakdowning down of the console. I know i'd be Livid! Absolutey. Anyone had a breakdown outside of warranty & if so, enlighten

Actually, the build date is available by looking at the serial number.

http://blog.iamjay.ca/2007/03/19/your-xbox-360-serial-number/

This is useful for those buying a new console in store since they don't have access to the build date on the back of the unit. The other numbers in the serial number also mean something specific but isn't important as far as the date goes. To answer the question, the last two digits represent which manufacturing plant built the console. 05 = China, 06 = Taiwan.

Hope this helps.

 Hey where you in my place...

I was playing GOW, and actually winning for once which is a huge event for me ;) when I had a power surge.

3 red flights, I nearly died..... restarted it and no problems except my Linksys AP had reset itself to default and so had my Telkom Router...

Spent two hours setting my network back up again to get an Open NAT

um... we in south africa! we got the 2nd gen ones coz they only came out late last year...

Quite a few folks got the 1st gen from suppliers who imported units from the UK, me being one of them.

Hope this helps.
lol - thanks. I was prepared to work of the 5 digits as recommended by the post but right above the serial number . . . MFR Date - 2006-07-26 :D

That means it's second gen?

Most definetly. First gen were 2005 batches, 2nd gen started from Jan-Feb 2006 AFAIK.

sure, checked my bros' 360 .. 25 July 06. However, when its connected & he touches the metalic parts of the machine (ie. HDD metal strip) )it shocks him :D ; he couldnt be arsed to get a replacement, enquire or whatever until something worse "eventually" happens. It seems like almost all x360 owners spend most of their time with their fingers crossed.

That sounds like a house problem not a 360 problem.... My PVR also shocks the crap out of me but it doesn't seem to affect anyone else?

I just put it down to me being so intelligent and having a high electrical pulse in my brain :D ;)
