Xavi vs Scholes

Well you got one over us, coz unlike the CL trophy, there's no chance that any of the EPL trophies we have will have a Liverpool victory engraved on it:p

Here is what Scholes can do :)

pass rate completion of over 90% including 30-40yard lobs.
1 goal in every 4 matches.
ability to score goals from 30 yards including volleys.

Scholes will always be 1 of a kind.

LoL - how can you compare league champions medals when Scholes has been playing longer? That just makes absolutely no sense.

Then why are you comparing the two now? Obviously in his career, Scholes has won more, so since you wanna compare, he's better.

If i were to use your logic, then Scholes and Giggs would be the greatest players in the history of the game.

Don't be facetious, and try to twist his words. They are great players, make no doubt, because:
1. They have proved their longevity and usefulness in one of the most competitive teams in the world.
2. They've done it in the fastest league in the world, at their age. Which is phenomenal.

Individual achievements is what matters when comparing players. Not team achievements.

There are plenty of players who haven't won individual recognition that have had better careers than those who have. In my opinion Giggs, Scholes> Owen, Shevchenko, Nedved. Even Henry, who is one of the best players to have ever graced the English game, never won a Ballon d'Or, but would you rate Michael Owen above him?

Basically, what I'm saying is stop these threads, there's no way to prove anything with them.

I gotta disagree regarding this... these threads make great discussions and arguments ;)

Xavi is currently the best central midfielder in the world and has been for sometime. His techincal ability and passing is miles better than Scholes' even when Scholes was at his peak.

Xavi is recognised by the entire footballing world as the best passer and only United supporters think Scholes is better.

Think about it, ever hear an Arsenal or Liverpool supporter say Scholes is better than Xavi?

I agree! Its threads like these that make for the best forum discussions.

When Xavi can play until 35 years at the top level then you can compare them. Until that , there is no comparison. Scholes is the best midfielder in my eyes...pin point crosses and he scores goals , something which Xavi cannot do.

I dont think you understand.

Xavi is better than Scholes. He has always been better than Scholes in the passing department. He is TECHNICALLY a better player.

I think it will be hard for anybody to disagree. You are of the opinion that Scholes is better, and thats all good. Im just pointing out that Xavi is known to be a better player by the rest of the world. Dont you find it odd that the only people saying Scholes is better, are United supporters?

Oh well. Xavi is just in the spotlight now because Barca won the treble. I can't argue with that.

I'll just have to wait for Manchester to win the League , UCL , Fa Cup then i'll be able to change people's views on Scholes.

United already did that the season before last didnt they?
And that was down to Ronaldo, not Scholes :D

You brainwashed :D

Xavi led Spain to the Euro's. He was man of the tournament.

I'm nowhere close to being a ManU supporter but have to agree Scholes was quite a phenomenon in his prime. The don't make them like they used. Xavi is very good and being in a good team overall, it helps up his game.

Overall, i'd pick Scholes anytime...

I have never really seen Scholes dominate a game from midfield, the way Xavi does. Xavi controls everything about the game, the tempo, the attacks, he sprays the ball from the left to the right with superb ease.

He is the one from the old central midfield school that is sadly a dying breed. Almost like a Pirlo in his prime. Those short players, that just absolutely control the entire game with every touch.

Some words from Maradona on Xavi:

Argentina Coach Diego Maradona Praises Barcelona's Xavi

Argentina coach Diego Maradona has declared that Barcelona midfielder Xavi has dominated every game he has seen the Spaniard play and insisted that he has no doubts about the ability of Xavi's Blaugrana team-mate Lionel Messi.

"Every time I see Xavi play he lays down the law on the football field, for sure," Maradona told a press conference.

No wonder why Ferguson said before the CL final in Rome, that he doesnt think Xavi has ever lost the ball in his life.

No doubt.

Cantera, no one disputes the facts you stated about Xavi. It's just that Scholes belongs to a different generation of the game. Compare Xavi with the current bunch...

Scholes was good - past his prime
Xavi is good - in his prime
Pirlo was good - also passing his peak...

I still think Scholes in his prime was not as effective in a game as Xavi is.

But as you okes pointed out - different generations.
