XBMC remote control ?? [ Solved / iSonic MCE Remote ]

Greets fellow forumites.

I have a Nettop which i'd like to install XBMC on, my issue is that I would like to find a dedicated remote control for it (non phone based). Any suggestions ?

I made an IR to serial port adapter, and use my amp remote (Marantz) or any other spare remote (DVD player) to control XBMC... I like the fact that I can use one remote for everything :)

I got half a dozen of those things lying in my office draw and they are useless now as serial ports are seldom available. The IR to USB sometimes does not sync well - our company is involved in a project that captured thousands of remote signals and we had problems using IR-USB recievers.

Yip, have that problem right here :P, i take it the "Hauppauge Media Center remote" does not have this issue?

Sounds interesting. Can you give more info regarding this?

The Hauppauge is good stuff and works 100%, the USB-IR receiver cable is also very long and thats a bonus. It looks so similar to my Sony MCE remote (reciver and remote) that I was convinced it was the same device.

One guy has had his for months and it super happy, no problems.

Thanks for all the input guys. I actually forgot i posted this late last night :D I bought a cheapo iSonic Remote from Cafe Viva for R99 with an IR receiver this morning. So gonna see if i can get it going with an XBMC Linux install... i'm not too optimistic tho ;)

Since my PC still has one normal RS-232 serial port, it works for me... Just need to find the schematics (see below). I use WinLIRC and Event Ghost to get the setup working. I use it with an old version of XBMC - newer version might work without EventGhost?

See here: http://www.voti.nl/ir-2/index_1.html

and here: http://www.lirc.org/receivers.html

I wonder if there is a IR to USB (like that which comes with the Hauppauge kit mentioned) will be able to learn codes from other remotes? Might still need to use some other software? I like the fact that I can use my Marantz amp remote for everything.

To be honest i'm pretty darn surprised, but the iSonic MCE Remote remote (R99 from Cafe Viva) works flawlessly with the current stable version of XBMC ;)

The only bug that I have found is that the power button on the remote disables the USB IR receiver :D

It's not a bug.Check your bios for "wake up from usb".If not some boards have a jumper for the setting.Hope this helps
