XBMC vs Plex

I personally am using xbmc with openelec. Was just wondering in the almost 2 years since anything added on topic that there were any significant changes.

Plex has changed a helleva lot. There have been a ton of new features but the general concept is the same. So if you chose XBMC over Plex 2 years ago then it's unlikely you will see anything new to convince you to use Plex.

To use a lot of the new features in Plex require that you have a PlexPass though which costs money.

Yes was reading thru plex just now & the plexpass was a quick turnoff

You only need Plex Pass for the apps right? Otherwise you'd have to purchase the app on each platform?

No, not really. PlexPass will give you access to stuff before it's available to anyone else (pre-release). The only apps you get with PlexPass is the Android and Roku apps I believe.

You can see here: https://plex.tv/features

Features with the PlexPass logo next to them are PlexPass only.

For me Plex has the following advantages:
- every device I watch video on can access my Plex server (Samsung Smart TV, PS3, HTPC, Smart Phones, MXIII Droid Box, iPad, Roku)
- I dont need to use daytime data on my capped account because I schedule all my downloads between 00:00 and 06:00
- series downloads automated via utorrent RSS Downloader and showRSS.info account
- no broken links and buffering
- I watch all my movies in 1080p and series in 720p
- the way Plex presents my media looks good (seasons, genres, cover art etc)
- watch on one device, stop, and pick up where I left off on another
- I can still access PrimeWire and IceFilms through channels in the unsupported channel store ie LetMeWatchThis and SS-Plex but won't really write home about it if I'm honest.
- can stream all my music to all my devices
- even home movies (GoPro clips) are available to my network
