Hi

Just got a new xbox 360 slim - tried to play some avi from a flash drive and got a message that I have to download a media update (error 51-C00F236), after choosing to download the update, I just get taken to a blank page in xbox live with no options to download anything. Anyone know what the problem is? I thought divx etc was supported by default? After googling all i could find was a post claiming that the xbox cannot play media from a flash drive - is this correct?

edit - after further investigation and trying to manually download the update i get the following error:

"This item is not available from your country or it has been expired."

fixed by creating a USA account.

Yep, iv phoned about this and its soo pathetic, Xbox Live ZA doesn't even have the media update available for download (Shocked Face) You have to create a USA/UK account just to get a media update, but its cool create a US/UK and within 2 Weeks you also get a code to a free Marketplace Item Prop (Think Its A controller (Black)). But still bad that we dont even have the media update available on ZA

I also had to fix it by creating a dummy USA account. Most people probably won't know this though. I'm very disappointed that I created a local Live account. :(

guess I should bookmark this thread for when the times comes that I am gonna try and stream something off the BOX :p

I must admit it's quite embarrassing the X360 doesn't have native divx support out of the box. Also any divx/xvid file exceeding 2GB will have a 1-2 second stutter every 10 minute or so. They don't even bother to correct this incompatibility issue.

Return it for a PS3 160GB and get a XBOX-style PS3 controller from ZAPS. You will never look back as you have the best of both - a decent game-console and media center with the best console controller-layout.

And no, this is not a fanboi comment.

embarrassingly - i have both - I'm no fanboy either :-)
Each console has it's strengths and neither is perfect.

Surely does sound fanboi-like. There's a lot more things better from the X360 than just the controller I can promise you.

Take all options out of both consoles to com-pair them, a console is made with gaming in mind as 1st priority, now compair 360 gaming to ps3 and make a decision like that, everyone brings in the fact of blueray and media capability, if u want a freaking good media device buy a device that is make specifically for media handling...

^^^^^

agreed...

yes PS3 has some functionality that the Xbox doesn't have, but when it comes down to gaming in general, I would say they could both be on par with each other.

it also used to be about which games are available on which console, but these days multi-platform has become so common, no1 could lose out.

the xbox is built to play games first and foremost, its no surprise that the vast majority of multi-platform games are noticeably better on the xbox, throw in the awesome controller and xbox live and you have a convincing package, i own a ps3 aswell and mostly have it for some of the awesome exclusives it has.... but in terms of daily multi-player and general gaming i spend most of my time on xbox

Very well said man and its true but hoping this won't turn into a flame but both consoles have there uses its like compairing iOS vs android vs symbian the rest but u get what I mean...o well there will never be a definite answer but online play stats prove most online gamers are on xbox live :):) just saying

*Shameless thread reboot*

Anyone tried to download the optional media update from a XBOX Live SA account?

Cool. No internet at the mo, (come on 8ta! Deliver already) will check it out soon as i am online. thanx maestro_za
