Sup guys

I need some advice here and i'd like 2 see what you guys think.
Wich one should I buy and the reason why?:D

Jason, if you like games more, get a 360. If you like Blue Ray movies, get a PS3.
 
I've heard the 80GB PS3 *may* not arrive here ... and if it does, it'll be a few months away. Gavin has the full story ;)

Also, aren't MS announcing another Xbox about now? Or is that a rumour? It is / would have been a super duper Xbox which may outdo the 80GB ...

If I'm not mistaken it was to be called the 360 Ultimate and was supposed to be announced @ CES this year. Unfortunately it didn't materialize so I'm guessing it was either just a rumor or we'll hear about it later this year.

According to the official announcement from the Head of Sony Europe (who controls us) there are no plans for a 80GB PAL PS3 and the only SKU available will be the 40GB. While they may be lying I think it is safe to assume we ain't going to see one anytime soon.

As to the original question

Xbox 360 Elite or PS3 40GB

I think it very much depends on your gaming tastes and what you want it for, the 360 still has the lead in the number and overall quality of games (according to Metacritic.com not me) but the PS3 does have that Blu-Ray player.

I couldn't care less about high definition movies so for me the best option is the Xbox 360 premium (you don't need 120GB of HDD)

However if you really want to play Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy then go for the PS3
 
If you want to play games with good graphics, either is fine. If you want to play games with better graphics, more content, more playability, and do a whole lot more, get a pc.
 
If you have the extra cash to spare I'd say go for the PS3. Its more expensive and its newer technology. Granted the games aren't that great yet as they're not utilizing the full potential of the cell cpu yet.

technically no.... the graphics chip actually older and it doesn't have rumble :D

I would not advise buying anything computerised for possible potential value... Buy what is best for you now and then if something realises it's great potential one day then buy it then,

The PS3 is good enough to hold it's own now if it gives you what you want.

Do you think that's the developers fault or because Sony turned off a few of their cells?

They didn't tell you that in the marketing brochure did they?

You are going to get flamed by the xbox boys.

The PS3 has the advantage of a blue ray player. The rest of the features are more or less equal. Graphics are similar and are not distinguishing feature. PS3 has more processing power but to date no one has harnessed that yet so its a moot point.The xbox has more games currently but that is likely to change over time too. Both charade as a media player of sorts.

The blue ray player is a huge advantage. In 5 years time we all might be buying those dics in stead of dvds. Already the price of the discs are down to R199 at retailers like Makro. Even if you have bog standard TV with only a normal video connection for now you should care about HD. Your current tv will not last forever, HD screens are getting cheaper every year, almost everyone, including gamers(especially GavinMannion:D) wants a nice big hd screen to play their games on.

HD in 720P looks like it will be the broadcast standard in the near future in SA as well. This again will drive down the cost of the screens. So should you care about HD and whether your next consul has a player? I think so and believe it wont take long for MS to ship a blue ray player for their console for a couple of plenty bucks extra. Or you can just get a PS3 and enjoy HD now.

Dont let anyone tell you that one is vastly better than the other. One is newer than the other and as such the games are not as plentiful. That will change in time. Only real difference is the blue ray player and even that will change once MS makes it available.

If you decide you want a PS3 then try to track down a 60 gig version. They are the ones to have until a 80 gig comes out.

Hence when I needed a new TV 6 months ago, I bought a SDTV LG plasma for R10,500.00. I can guarantee in 2 years when HD catches on properly I'll be able to buy a fancy HDTV set with new technology at the same price and use my SDTV in a 2nd room.

I was slammed a few people, but why spend so much money now on an HDTV?

My stepfather bought a R30,000.00 42" LCD 2 years ago and was happy because 'the salesman told me it did HDTV ...'
 
There are some good console videos on YouTube - search "What can I do with my Xbox/PS3/Wii" etc.

Dude they all play games.
If you want a console to play games, then xbox currently has the best line up, and there is nothing that even comes close to the xbox live experience, cod4 on xbox live, mind blowing!
If you want a bluray player, the Ps3 is the one to get.
If you dont care about graphics, or AAA games or live multiplayer and just want family fun get the pee, I mean wii
 
Thanx alot guys im really impressed with the knowledege that has been shared here...
Im in the fortunate position of having a 52" sony bravia(My dads tv) at our house...to play my Xbox elite\Ps3 60gig on....As for my choice im leaning towards the Ps3 for now but there's still time to change my mind...buying the console at the end of the month.

Ofcoure you may dude...I had an x360 premuim wich i sold in a laps of good judgment...anyway ive been wanting 2 play a really awsum console game cause ive clocked most of my pc games. So i bought assassins creed (I knw its out on Pc) on saturday played it on my best mate's x360 elite...and i fell in love again...lmfao!! so been thinking of buying an elite or ps3 again. As for me leaning more towards the Ps3 well i don't really know why...Thats why i did this thread.Weighing up the pro's and cons of the consoles...Im leaving it up to the guys here on the forum to help me decide:confused:
