Morning All,

Xbox 360 (2008 Arcade), dvd drive on the way out, and now E74 error.

Worth fixing, or better off just getting a new one?

Thanks

*bounce!* If you go new, is the old one a donate-able??? :D - I'd looove to get me some upskirt action in prodding and prying apart 'n splaying its innards nekkid before me.. :o ..*ahem* (yea, I'm tech-geeky that way)

(Would beer (in reasonable quantity, I'm not THAT kind of cad!) assist in the decision-making process?) :p

I would give you a limited edition 500 000 000 Billion Zimbabwean dollar note and some sweetcorn for it.:p

Seriously though, that controller and memory card has some value so i concur with getting a new one.

Jasper models are gonna get very cheap with the advent of the latest XBOX360 console, so if you are not into looks, i would strongly recommend waiting for a super cheap one of those or simply jump into the deep end with the more expensive Arcade model.

Oi, back, varmints! ..to quote a fantastic lyric: "get thee hence to ENDLESS night!" :D - I got in first and my love is pure :o .. you savages wouldn't do the old girl any justice!

YAAAAAAAARRRRR YA SEA LUBBER!
I would run a a pap smear on the console and then stick it in the deep freeze overnight.

Perhaps then i could drop it from the top floor of my balcony pitted against 'ye old frozen chicken' to see which one hits the ground first.

Please note that a copy of Rick Ashlee's hit single 'Never gonna give you up', will be in the redundant Xbox360's drive to send the sucker to hell.

OR!

Paddy could just try the towel trick while he awaits his new console:D

I think on a 2008 model you get a 3 year warranty on E74..
Take it in to partserve and they'll give you a refurb for free..

UPDATE:

It turns out Powercare holds the Xbox contract in SA, so it can be swapped out with them, over the counter if you go in; if you're like me, and can't find your receipt after 2 years, it's R680, with receipt it's R0.

Note, the E74 is covered for three years.

Did you buy it cash or with a credit card? Online or at normal shop?

This receipt thing is a bs cop out. They can check serial numbers. Give MS a call and let them put pressure on Powercare.

With card at IC

Then you have a purchase record, just ask the CC for the transaction details as you are involved in a warranty dispute. From the Transaction record you should also be able to get something out of IC.

If the Xbox is out of warranty it is possible to fix it. Mine RROD and i fixed it myself and now its working fine.... oh and my xbox is 6years old. :)

Talking about freezers, my old megadrive had an overheating issue. Would stick it in the freezer for 15 mins and she works again :P

Sega consoles had issues?? I'm shocked because I still have a working SEGA Master System and 2 Megadrive consoles.

Now those Nintendo "Famicom" consoles...wow, I think we went through five. People think MS cut corners with cheap components for the X360, these Nintendo consoles looked like cheap Chinese knockoffs, from the looks to operation.

You had an Xbox for a year before it was released? :D
