Hi,
ok so ive had my xbox (2nd hand) for about 2 months now and all has been smooth sailing. Is there anyway to manually update the codec drivers on the console without having to connect to the net. any websites you guys know about where i can download a patch that will update the console to play the latest avi's and divx files.im not sure if its possible and ive google around but all of them involve connecting to the net.its not a big deal but it would be sweet for alot of my avi's on my digital camera.

The divx codec thing is a problem the files u download are "signed" to your console, it seems that periodically it needs to check this and will ask you to connect to live again. Just my experience on 3 consoles.

Updated my friends console and his works fine up to today, the moment I dont have internet I cant watch divx files, its wierd.

Ya. It's damn frustrating. I've heard that if you create a second account and download the codec with that, it will work offline. But still need to try it out.

I might be wrong, but as far as I know, Microsoft must know every time you watch divx codec so that they can pay royalties for usage of the codecs.

That's why you need an Internet connection.

yeah you need to create another account on that xbox and then you can play divx offline.

the codec works the same as DLC as far as i know, if you have changed consoles the usage rights info is still locked to the old console and you will only be able to use it when you are logged into XBL, to get around this you can create a second account on your console and download the codec update again, or you can get your usage rights transferred to the new console by going to xbox.com
