I am ignorant when it comes to the Xbox 360, can someone just clear a few things for me.

1. I heard that it can connect a mouse and keyboard, is this a fallacy?

2. How does Xbox live work?

3. If I had 2 Xbox Consoles, could I connect them and multiplay?

4. Can I play multiplayer games on 2 TV's with 1 Xbox?

5. Can I multiplay with PC gamers if I own the same game?

6.Does the Xbox link up to you DSL modem with a normal LAN cable?

7.Does the Xbox have a wireless LAN option?

2. It's a internet based community where you can Play against/with other XBox live players

3. Yes

5. Only if the game supports it. There are rumours that it will happen.

6. You still needs an ADSL modem.

7. Xbox 360 got WLAN built in.

Not sure about the points I left out.

Come to think about it:

Can one play backup Copies on a standard Xbox 360?

Thanks for that Bwana. I was wrong on that. Friend of mine seems to think his is built in.

1. No the 360 doesn't use mouse for input, you can connect a keyboard to type with in some games/applications, but not most. There is apparently a convertor but from reports I've seen it doesn't work much better than the controller.

I'm a PC Gamer at heart and it took me a while to get used to the controller, but in some ways I now think its better than the mouse keyboard combo (except for FPS games)

No ... it is Wi-Fi Ready ... big diff ... I got the Xbox Wireless Adapter and it fits on the back of the case and plugs into the USB port.

Ouch - for the same money you could get a full wireless AP and use that instead - something nice and small like an Airport Express would do the same thing plus a whole lot more.

It won't work ... that is why it is $100 as the OS will only support the official adapter and you can't exactly load new drivers even if it runs Windows underneath.

The only other solution is to make use of a wireless-ethernet bridge.

Yeah. It must be the Wi-Fi ready part that had me confused. But what about playing backup copied of games?

Well my 360 works quite happily connected to my airport express so I'll have to blow you a big raspberry now. :p

Don't talk out your @ss Tibby. I got myself a cheap Linksys AP and it connects to my wireless router perfectly. You just bridge the connection and plug a LAN cable into the AP from the Xbox....

To answer the other questions.

1. I heard that it can connect a mouse and keyboard, is this a fallacy?
Yes but not in most games and I have no seen anyone in SA do it yet

2. How does Xbox live work?
You connect your Xbox 360 through a broadband connection and you can play online multiplayer games, download demos and mini arcade games (whic are addictive), download movie trailers and hopefully soon download full movies

3. If I had 2 Xbox Consoles, could I connect them and multiplay?
Yes. It's as simple as plugging an ethernet cable into each of them.

4. Can I play multiplayer games on 2 TV's with 1 Xbox?
No. Unfortunately the processing power required to render the amazing gfx twice and display them on two tv's is way to much. You can split screen obviously though.

5. Can I multiplay with PC gamers if I own the same game?
If the game allows it yes. Only with Vista machines though and there are not many games currently. Obviously since Vista only recently got released. I know UNO is one of them and there are a few more. Give it a few months and it should become more common.

6.Does the Xbox link up to you DSL modem with a normal LAN cable?
Yes

7.Does the Xbox have a wireless LAN option?

And as I said earlier ... a wireless ethernet bridge of which your overpriced Airport Express is an example will also work in leu of the official USB adapter.
You may keep your "big" rasberry :).

Hmm - I said use a airport express - you said that wont work.

As for over priced - well that subjective. I use it to extend for my wireless network, as a print server, to connect my 360, and to stream my tunes to my hifi so to me it's a pretty good deal. Its compact size also make it easy to take on the road. ;)

Overall I'd have to say you're 0 for 2 at the moment.

Thank you for clearing all that up, and for those of you who have tried the Xbox live, how did you find the latency? and what games did you try?

I played Gears of War and Rainbow 6:Vegas using an iBurst connection (locally) and it played amazingly well....

It all depends on the game, Dead or Alive 4 was terrible on iBurst but I know a few people who play on 384 ADSL lines locally and have no problems.

All international games however can have lag depending on your connection/isp and whether you are shaped or not...

However there are so many local players on Live! now you will never struggle to find a game. My biggest problem became finding time to play single player as I kept on receiving invites to play online.

I have heard Fifa 07, Burnout, PGR and Top spin are played often online with no problems.

Now my knowledge is finished :D...

Snormossel: I have never system linked myself but I think you can use a normal one. I think the software handles all that stuff now...

I am also looking at getting a 360 once I sorted out my adsl. I am still weighing it up against the geforce 8800 gts.
I have also read somewhere that a new black 360 with bigger hdd and hdmi is coming out soon. If thats the case I'll rather wait a couple of months.

It sounds like the consoles are going the same way as the computers where you need "upgrade" or get a new console every 6 months.

Question - If two people are using the 360, how are profiles maneged. Will the other person be able to save over my save games and will each person need it's own live account?

The black 360 is a rumour that keeps coming back, the truth is apparently that the dev consoles are black and have larger drives for multiples builds.

You don't need to upgrade a 360 it's only R3500 and will last you 4-5 years, unlike an 8800GTS which will cost you R6000, last 2 years, and still need CPU and RAM upgrades later . . .

Each person on a 360 has a separate profile that is linked to their online account, all your saves (and gamerscore . . . ) are your own.
