Yup you knew I had to do it some time....

A 19 day old site is not real without a 360vPS3 comparison :D...

Seriously it's long but if you are interested take a look and let me know what you think...

http://www.lazygamer.co.za/xbox-360/xbox-360-vs-ps3/

I have tried to be objective and to also avoid talking about technical rubbish that no one actually cares about...

Why did I write it? Because I have had this discussion offline with a few people now and I wanted something to point them to when they got home or to the office.... It's aimed at non-IT folk....

Next would be the controllers, even though the PS3 is using an advanced dual shock controller it doesn’t have rumble. That vibration effect. That in itself is not that bad but what this really means is that you don’t get Force Feedback. If you are a racing game fan you would naturally expect to buy a steering wheel for the PS3 that will give you resistance when hitting a wall or being bumped by another car. The PS3 cannot do that. It does however have a 6 axis (sixaxis) motion sensor built in which you can use to control airplanes or dragons but which has not been used effectively yet…. The lack of force feedback/rumble was a terrible design consideration by Sony and for that they lose a point.

So even if you buy, say a Logitech Pro steeringwheel it wont have force feedback?

Nice article, pretty much my sentiments exactly. Only one thing, you typo'd "networking" in the heading. :D

Nintendo has captured the imagination of families and casual gamers in a way not seen since Atari stormed onto the family entertainment scene back in the 1970s. Atari was and Nintendo (both the Wii and the DS) is all about community, ease of play and, most importantly, fun. ... The cultural disparity between Nintendo and Sony is de-nuded in [company] commercials, where the Wii ad is whimsical and fun, with lots of different types people involved - different ages, different ethnicities, different styles. It is the gaming console for everyone. The PS3 ad, conversely, doesn't have a human being anywhere.

How much time have you spent playing the PS3 compared to the 360?

Very little which is why I have not tried to imply any great first hand knowledge and have only used facts as much as I could.... Did you feel I was biased in my opinion?

It might be a worthwhile exercise revisiting after you've had a chance to [-]really[/-] thoroughly play the PS3.

Also, considering the suit with Immersion has been settled, I'd guess that the rumble equipped controllers arent far off. Once available you'd be able to compare the two, perhaps using the same title on the different boxes?

It's already been confirmed that rumble is coming for the PS3.

Yup, the ironic thing about most people "reviewing" the PS3 is that they haven't really had the time to play on it.

Exactly, however the lawsuit between Immersion and Sony has been settled and you can pretty much guarantee that rumble and force feedback will make a return... It's amazing how when people find out that the PS3 doesn't have Rumble/Force Feedback they are shocked. It is expected and it was stupid of Sony not to pay the royalties earlier as M$ and Nintendo did....

More Information about Rumble

doh... :o thanks...

I would love to own a PS3, but unfortunately I can't justify the R6300 to pick one up...

I agree with you 100%, but as I said

As I said right in the beginning they are both fantastic machines but currently the PS3 is lagging in this generation and the 360 is shining

I have written before about the immersion deal being sorted and that rumble is coming to the PS3. Until that time though it is going to lose a point against the Xbox 360....

Well, we expect rumble to be coming to the PS3, but with no confirmation from Sony you cannot say that it is.

You never know, maybe they weren't lying as we all expected when they said it interferes with the motion sensors. (It's Sony, they were lying, but what if? ;) )

Cory Barlog who is one of the main developers of God of War seems to have confirmed that rumble is coming back to the PS3…

So not officially confirmed but hey I ain't no official journalist :D

Some more confirmation...

Dave Karraker said this: "We are very pleased to have reached a cooperative agreement with Immersion regarding the use of its advanced vibration technology (haptics technology). We look forward to working closely with them as we explore new and innovative ways to utilize this technology in PlayStation products." Great. With rumble coming back, possibly, we ask this: can firmware game updates install rumble tech in games currently out that don't support it, like Resistance or MotorStorm?

GamesIndustry followed up this story by noting that Immersion has indeed begun to incorporate the new rumble technology in Sony products. It's not an "if" anymore -- it's "when" rumble will be released. As CEO of Immersion, Victor Viegas, put it: "Our new business agreement with Sony is specifically intended to enable advanced vibration capability for the benefit of the PlayStation community." Hell yeah. Now vibration enthusiasts have nothing to complain about ever again. Just as stand-up comic Daniel Tosh said, "we should legalize marijuana in this country. Yeah, that way pot heads will never have anything to talk about ever again." The same applies here. All is well in rumble country.

So considering SIXAXIS controllers are about R500, you guys sure you want to by the PS3 now, then fork out another grand in a couple of months time, just for controllers? ;)

All comparisons between 2 products are null and void if you can afford both...

I want a 42" HD Plasma and a 42" HD LCD, if I could I would buy both and put one in each room, however since I am but a humble worker I can only maybe afford one....

Exactly, for many people a Plasma / LCD is a waste of money. For others it's money well spent. Same with the PS3 and it's accessories.
