I think the 360 was essentially the same price when released as it is now. They've added bundles though.

Exchange rate on 15 December 2000 was R11.35; on 14 December 2001 it was R17.05.

Nope..since they're both released they are now current gen consoles.. next gen kinda of implies something that is coming....

No, they're previous generation. Current generation is the latest consoles. How many years are we going to call the 360 next generation?

I have to agree with can't call something that is released next gen anymore... but it has turned into the market phrase for it...

So how are the graphics on your current next gen console? <-- doesn't make sense but it is how it goes :D
 
ps3 and xbox360 are now current gen in my opinion, however devs can still strive to achieve next gen graphics on current gen console ;)
 
You guys are funny. What makes the 360 or PS3 next gen?

All they did was improve the graphics. That's not next gen. The only truly next gen console is the wii.

Don't say I'm a fanboy. 'cause I'm not. Next generation implies that the did something so amazing different. But they didn't. So they are not "next generation.
 
I'm going to disagree on a technical point there. Next generation implies nothing more than an evolutionary step in the continuing evolution of a line. Just think, from a physiological level you are the same as your parents, just with minor evolutionary advances.

By that definition all 3 "core platforms" are next gen, even the Wii - it is slightly faster has more RAM and WiFi over the cube. However, the Wii is a mutant - "revolutionary & disruptive". The only relationship that has to "generation" is the threat that it could make the incumbent extinct.

It terms of what's "current gen" - the Wii and 360 are both outselling the PS2, by dethroning the king that makes them the "current". The PS3 get's to tag along by association ;)

Dude, by that reasoning, my PS2 with a singstar mic and golf club attachment is "nextgen" as well.

The Wii is just a buffed up Gamecube with a Wii mote. Its fun, it the best social interaction machine but it is certainly not nextgen by any means.
