well seeing what Sony is doing with the PSP firmware i wouldnt be surprised what they will enforce on the PS3. Still a whole year to wait for it though...
 
Why do console games have different regions?
Is it just to hassle people or is there a perfectly valid reason for it
 
Here's one theory I have and I'm using the PS3 as an example.

- Although all profits go under the Sony brand, each region [US/Europe/Japan] of Sony "compete" with each other.

So even if Sony as a whole make a profit but the UK division make a loss, the CEO of that division would get fired.

If I understand your previous statement correctly, the Sony PS3 designers are planning to 'lock' a game disc to a particular console. The only way I can imagine them accomplishing this would be to write to the game disc itself. Nothing I've read about the PS3 suggests that it's possible to write to game disc media.

But hey, even if I did get that part wrong I can also imagine a couple of scenarios that would not make this feasible:
- Sony would completely destroy any sort of second hand market which in turn would make consumers unhappy. Unhappy consumers may turn to the new XBOX.
- What happens when your PS3 get's stolen, broken or spontaneously combusts? Does Sony send you a new set of games once you replace your console? Or do you sit around with a couple of grand's worth of games that are completely useless to everyone?

I'm not exactly in the "trust sony mood" so I was a bit concerned about the rumour, but thought it worth mentioning here.

Why The Revolution:

Controller
half a gig storage
The downloadable back catalogue (comparable to Live!)
wi-fi - I'd have to drop another grand to get that for the 360
And 'reasonable' spec - ~1.5-2Ghz PPC, ATi RV530 based graphics, ~110Mb RAM
but, ~$150-$200 oppossed to $300-$400! Or $500 for PS3.

Maybe I'm just a jaded old gamer, but someone just offered me the opportunity to get a 360, and the only thing going through my mind is "Okay, the graphics are prettier than the PS2, but I'd still need to get a WiFi adapter, or not even bother due to ZA lag, the game library is a fraction of a percent of the PS2, there's no rental support and no local hardware support, yet. The revolution is something completely different"

The way I play it out is if a non gamer comes into the house. With the 360 they'll go, "oh so it's like the PS2 but better graphics? That's nice" with a Rev it's more likely "What do you mean I play the games by waving the remote control thingy at the screen? let me try . . ?"

you can pay via paypal... if they don't deliver just charge back...the onus is on them to prove delivery...

I don't use my psp as much as I thought so i'd rather get a mac mini for my media gateway...
