was able to get the vpn working and get the 2 pcs to communicate and share files, with each using a hsdpa modem. still struggling to get the xbox's to 'see' each other. will have to try again when I get home tomorrow.

Can't you just type the ip of the one xbox in the other one to connect to?

i would do that, but Im having trouble figuring out the correct settings for the xbox as i cant just leave it as it is (192.168.0.2) and I tried using auto or dhcp but then I lose connection with the computer :confused:

hmmm... ok have you tried to connect the two xboxes to each other without the vpn? just normally through your router. If it doesn't work then it might be something with your router or something? (just thinking aloud here lol)

i dont have a router/switch atm but they do work with a cross over cable cable.
 
How are the PCs set up ? Did you use ICS ? Is NAT involved.

I've never used XBox over LAN before. Must the boxes be on the same subnet, or does it work over a routed environment ?
 
well i've tried just about this whole weekend to get this working and now I must make it official - I give up. Was a very good idea on paper though. oh well
 
sorry to go around grave digging! but i seem to have some success using this, register > install > portforward :30000 > login with your "xtag" and add your friends xtags to start??

is there any other alternative anyone has to this since this is such a fossilized thread?
 
This is not feasible. When your ping goes above 30MS, the connection will drop. Good luck connecting to another dude with a ping of 30. That's incredibly unlikely.They built the 360 specifically to bypass things like this. MS really don't want you to play online for free.

Only if your console is Jtagged, it's possible, as it removes the ping limit.
