Just got my Xbox *bow* and hooked it to my PC in my lounge via supplied ethernet. After 'aquiring address' for a minute, it says 'limited or no connectivity' (yellow triangle over connection icon).

What could this mean? Think its got something to do my with ICS? I couldn't get that going between both PCs so I just installed a proxy

* I borrowed an Xbox a few weeks ago & plugged it into the same PC and had the same issue. Instead of finding out WHY there was an issue, we ran a 15m ethernet directly to another my other PC which worked - and we used that.

Of course now that this is my own Xbox and its home is the lounge, I'd like the lounge PC to work!

I'm guessing its because you don't have a router that's acting as a DHCP server? Can you set static IPs etc. on the Xbox?

Yea I can - but my other PC worked (no router or anything). So it can't be that :/

Besides - I have no clue when it comes to networks, IPs etc Perhaps I'll ask timgaul to pop over one evening ...

maybe the other PC was dishing out IP's using Automatic Private IP Addressing? Have u tried plugging the other PC into the Xbox to see if it works? My advice tho, get a router and hook your xbox up to xbox live asap.

Hey dude. Firstly congrats on getting the 360, sheesh, talk about stealth ;) Did you get the bundle you wanted?

This is what you're looking for, about 2/3rds down the page.

Personally I recommend getting a dedicated ADSL router, then your 360 isn't dependant on your PC being on, but I realise that's not always possible.

Oi, I was still looking for Dolby in the other thread, did you get THE BUNDLE?????? How cud you leave us hangin on the other end :confused::p

lol .... nah ... got the Halo 3 bundle ;) Then bought Forza and Call of Duty 3 at Animeworx! Awesome used prices and then I trade em when I'm bored :P

I couldn't wait much longer ... *blush*

Oh and only set up shortly before that post :(

That is probably because XP has a fallback where it just gives itself an IP address if there is no DHCP server available.

ok I'Il check the ip's tonight. What do you think the odds are that its the cable? I don't mean broken, but the straight/crossed cable issue? Does it still effect modern equipment?

@Dolby, hey congrats...

The cable is not the problem. The Xbox switches it as required and so do most new computers...

That page from Doobiwan should sort it out

Gavin - 100% sure that cable can connect directly from box to PC ... ? No routers, switch or anything ... just direct.

Sure sure sure? :P

Yes. I have done this a few times to my laptop with both straigt
and crosover cables.

I have a real job, okay? I'm not your techie slave... :D

well actually...

Thats not a bad plan. If you guys can get together you can test the cable etc by playing some stuff on system link.

*nods* I agree ;)

Hence I'm calling him next week ...

yay timgaul ! :P

It wasn't the cable ... I don't even know what it was to be honest, but it all works :D

thanks!
