Xbox Live suffers major outage

Microsoft's Xbox Live online gaming service is back online following a serious outage which affected multiple services.

Xbox users reported that they were unable to sign in on their Xbox One consoles and subsequently could not access certain apps and games.

Noob question... Do you need Xbox live connectivity to acces and play games on your Xbox one?

No, only for multiplayer obviously and to purchase any new games or download updates.

If you game share an account between two consoles the secondary one requires a permanent online connection though.

Most of my XB360 games are bought from the online store. Is there any risk that I might lose the option to re-download these games one day, possibly when servers are switched off? I am asking koz I am considering getting an Xbox One - the version without the Bluray drive.

Only if microsoft goes bankrupt until then, no, you wont lose your games or the option to re download them.
