Hi all,
I recently lost my first XBOX to the dreaded RROD. On this unit I could watch any avi file, either via USB stick, cd or dvd. This was after I only had to upgrade the software/firmware of the XBOX once.
Now I received a new box, which I also upgraded the dashboard to the latest version.
I plugged in a USb stick with avi on it, whent on live as requested, and watched my movie.
However, now it seems that everytime I want to watch a movie, I first need to go on to live.
On my previous unit this was not necessary, I went on once, did the update & finish en klaar.
Am I doing something wrong, or has M$ gone ape**** on us again, requiring to go live in order to watc movies?

Mine still works offline. Did you download the plugin? The first time I installed DivX I did something wrong and I also had to be online to view AVIs/

You need to delete the license to play AVI's from your XBOX and then download it again using a newly created LIVE account.
This worked for me.

I THINK you need to delete the optional update found under your memory settings in your system section. I haven't done this in a while so can't really remember so well, but will look into it for you and post back soon.

Transfer your licenses to you new xbox using the content license tool.
Then redownload any arcade games, add-on's etc you bought so you can play them offline.

Note: You must redownload the codec to play videos offline once transfer is complete. Go delete it from your harddrive first, try and play a video, and it will auto download it again.

that does sound rather disturbing..
I don't get why anyone should need to redownload all that

You don't redownload the whole file, all it does is just link the new
licence to the console. So it takes only a few seconds per item.

ah ok, lol - just though to myself "but that doesn't make any bladdy sense!" :D

Downloading this does not solve the DIVX/AVI problem. This simply transfers the licenses of your arcade games and game add-on's to the new console (note that this can only be done ONCE a year)

To fix the AVI problem you will have to delete the update (optional media update), create a new silver account and redownload the update when prompted to.
