So my fourth replacement xbox 360 just went and died a couple of weeks ago.
Damn there I was hoping the last one would last as it was the latest model and all and it just went to the big farm in the sky!

So anyhow the sad part is Friggen MIDigital haven't had stock for 2 weeks now, I mean sheeeez, I'm on the last chapter of GOW 2 and no Xbox360 to play with.

Anyhow just been on hold for the last hour and I'm on their list, and there should be stock by the end of the month and blah blah and I have to pay now R680 cause 3 year warranty only covers RROD and I don't have RROD just a XBOX that won't read discs.

Must be honest, I have tons of Xbox games, about 30 odd, but if I had to choose again and didn't have the games, I would chuck out the Xbox and probably get a PS3, these consoles are just poorly made, I really really thought this one would last.

I agree, There must be something wrong there. My Xbox is almost always on, If I'm not playing games, why wife is play GH3, and if none of us are playing games, its streaming movies, Dont even have an aerial plugged into the TV... and its still going strong.

Not necessarily. With a failure rate of even 30%, Probability of 4 failures is 0.81% which is 1 in 123 customers!

yeh, I'm definately doing something wrong, probably by by switching it on, I was under the illusion it is a game console, mybad.

Pleeeeez.

My xbox 360 is well ventilated, in an open area, it never gets moved, all it friggen does is keep breaking down

so yeh I agree, I must be doing a lot wrong by trying to play games on it, stooopid me, what was I thinking.

The replacement models you're getting, are they refurbished (big ass MS warranty sticker and not the thin silver) or new ones (thin silver sticker and a corresponding new manufacturing date).

In other words, did you start off with a 2006 model per say and kept getting newer ones (2007, 2008)? or did you keep getting 2006 models from MI Digital.

And by died, what's wrong with it? RROD or something else where it doesn't boot up?

I guess buying a different console/PC wouldn't help either since you already spent a fortune on games ('bout R15,000)

what are you doing just before it fails though?

Except that decrease with successive models (assuming at least one Falcon and one Jasper). So you're looking at more like 0.06%, which is 1 in 1600 customers :/

What's the manufac. date on the one's your getting? If they are the new one's they shouldn't be failing.

I'm not sure how that's relevant to furnic's problem?? Whether every single 360 owner on this forum is still on his first console, exactly how does that affect/help furnic?

Thats exactly what I thought and thats why this last one is really the final nail on the coffin.
The first one went RROD after a few months, was definately the old type, the second one doesnt really count, was faulty out the box, probably a bad refurb, was exchanged the next day (faulty cd player) the third one was probably also a refurb unit and lasted about 6 months, was both RROD and problem with cd tray, would stop opening.
The last one I had to fight to get MI to swop, which after bitching here and on hellopeter they eventually agreed, and it was brand spanking new 2008 model (with that hdmi port thingy) and I thought it was going to last me forever when suddenly out of the blue a couple of weeks ago, in the middle of watching a movie it just stopped playing, no warning, nothing.
Originally I thought dial a movie once again gave me a dud DVD but then when it would'nt play games, it was obviously the friggen console breaking down again.
I can play downloaded arcade and demo games just fine, that have been stored on the hdd, I just can't play any of my cd games, which sucks, so I either the cd is faulty, or the laser is faulty or something is faulty. It just sucks that MI say sorry, on replacement consoles you only get a 3 month warranty, and I don't feel like fighting again.

So you've had 1 RRoD and 3 drive failures?

Are you using your drive tray as a coffee cup holder when its not in use? :p

you obviously have issues reading or understanding what you read.

the first and third both had RROD and the third the cd tray was also jamming

the second was faulty out the box - it sounded like it had an angle grinder inside.

The last one is a cd problem.

When it works, its 24/7 in use, don't try and be cute with daft responses.

I'm happy for you your 2006 model is working fine, bully for you. Maybe you don't own many games or don't use it as much, or maybe you just lucky - but to have a perfect working xbox for 3 years is not the norm, probably actually in the minority.

I have had mine for a year and a half and going strong (2006 model). There are disc reading skips now and then, so I'll probably replace the laser in the next few months.

The amount of money spent on replacement units would've been negated by a repair by "yours truly". But that's an issue for another day.

I'm saddened by this whole "replacement scam" that MI Digital is running. It's disheartening for the typical SA consumer.

That's why I've filled the gap and offer a full repair service for the Xbox 360, and now offer a small PSP service selection as well. I'm not your typical "console store" that concentrate on chipping the various types of consoles available on the market, and repairs as an after-thought.

Some people do seem to have bad luck with the 360.

Once the warranty is up on mine I'll just do drive repairs myself. I don't expect the optical drive to last any longer than the typical PC optical drive (which is what they are).

PS2 optical also went flaky with heavy use. Fixed it twice so far.

Some people are just so ignorant on this forum. I also had problems like this guy. AND everyone had to make a dumbass remark. We are so happy that your xbox has worked for 3 years, but if you can't say something helpful then don't post. Failing xboxes are a real problem for most of us, not everyone lives in a yogurt commercial with a 3 year old working xbox.

Here is my advice:

Contact maestro and send him your xbox for repairs. Mine is in his shop at the moment. Go to www.quickflowit.co.za for info. MI Digital is running a whorehouse, they are certainly not helpful/don't care about your xbox.

Thanks dude.

I'll get to your console during the course of next week.
