Yes thats the only way to turn XB1 into proper media center. However you'll need a server with enough power to transcode as XB1 has limited codec support.

As a result Plex stutters on my XB1 as HP Microserver is too weak to transcode. PS4 runs perfectly.

Use Media Optimizer.

Also have a "weak" Microserver.

Thanks will check out. Would prefer to use XB1 as its dead quiet and supports the old MS Media remote I have.
