"I'm not a big fan of Xbox One and a half. If we're going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers," Spencer said recently. "For us, our box is doing well. It performs, it's reliable, the servers are doing well. If we're going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be a really substantial change for people--an upgrade."

So unlike PS4.5, or PS4K, It seems like Xbox wants to introduce a complete new console. If this is the case, Xbox can go F themselves. This will then be my last MS console.
This whole console upgrade is complete BS. Xbox 360 and PS3 went 11 years without significant hardware upgrades, now this rubbish after barely 2 years?

Totally in the same boat. If something major is coming, I'm selling my Xbox and I'll never touch a console again. The whole point of a console is the longevity for the hardware.

The main problem is the hardware used, they used off the shelf PC hardware for the bone and the PS4. Whereas the older two were custom built kits. Also they used older generation stuff than they should've, but yeah if MS does release another console I see it being a slap in the face of existing owners and they will take a hit. As the Xbone is already not doing well against the PS4, so lets release another console and slap the people who did support us in the face isn't going to go well.

And here I was looking at getting a console just the other day.

I think you guys are getting this all wrong. I like what he's saying! He's not talking about bringing in a new machine soon but if and when it comes out it'll be worth purchasing the new item.

I'd be pissed with Playstation more to be honest, they released a machine and a year or so later, they release PS4K, if I had a PS, I'd be mad as hell.
Now I need the new version and my older PS4's value is worth F-all now !!!! That ladies and gents, is called being Nickel & Dimed !

I don't own either console BTW.

I've ready decommissioned my Xbox One.

At first, I just I just kept it on standby but eventually, I actually turned it off. I was hoping they'd sort out the sound and a few other bugs,k but it doesn't like it's going to happen

Issues with the sound?

I bought it to run my Kodi through the HDMI input - but the HDMI in can't do DTS and dumbs the sound down. The 'bitstream' isn't a true bitstream, so that can't be used either. There's tons of complaints online about it not being able to handle DTS tracks from HDMI in or often screwing up the sound via it.

Irritates me that it can't be controlled when out of site as well - either via a Wifi/Bluetooth remote or an IR input like many other gadgets. I thought about getting the Kinect, keeping that visible and hiding the Xbox ... but the Kinet doesn't have IR windows either.

There's a few other issues that I came across as well, which prevents me using it as a 'media hub'

Ah okay, I've never used mine for those purposes so never experienced any sound issues. But it really sucks about the bitstream, I'll have to go check mine out, I do remember playing with that and couldn't get it right compared to how easy the PS3 was.

Yea.

I bought Xbox (media) and PS4 (gaming) - but in the end I'm only using PS4 because of the limitations.

Had the media worked, it actually would be been a decent system. I could run Netflix, Hulu and Kodi off a single input and hide the Xbox away. I mean IR control in this day and age is insulting ... even PS3 was using BT/WiFi controls years back

If its only a "Slim" version, I wont have an issue. But reading that article it sounds like they are busy creating a whole new console which I'm NOT okay with. Reading other articles it seems like the new console is already in production.
I bought this console to last me at least 5 years (hoping for 10 like previous models). But I'm not paying R5500 for a console that's only going to last me 2 years.

MS (or rather Turn 10) has announced that all future Forza titles will come to both Xbox and Windows 10, so that means there is no reason for me to buy an Xbox One anymore.

Buying my Xbox One was the first time I got a console while it was (is) still fresh and I bought it specifically so I don't have to keep upgrading a PC every year. To find out now that it was all for null really pisses me off. If this really goes through, then I'm done with gaming.

EDIT: where I previously thought I was a first-time early adopter, I now just feel like a beta-buyer. ****

I think that perhaps some of what Microsoft is doing is misunderstood.
*Yes, they screwed us when they went with the older type graphics memory resulting in many games often being in 720p versus PS4's 1080p
*Yes they screwed us when they decided on delayed launches worldwide resulting in SA getting it almost a year after launch
*Yes they screwed us when they decided to only offer a console that was bundled with the Kinect - a decision they quickly regretted
But with this being said, they realise they have lost ground to Sony, their console is weak in comparison. The only reason I bought an Xbox one is because I prefer the controller (a poor reason, I know). Microsoft are now trying to make up the ground, firstly with the Xbox S (which will have 4K video) and then with the Scorpio next year (which is rumoured to have 4K gaming and possibly VR). On a side note, they sorta killed their Xbox S with news of the Scorpio, any reasonably minded person will wait for the latter. Oh, and they somehow magically found a way of incorporating the massive power brick into a smaller console, well done Microsoft, it only took you almost two decades. The upside is that all the games will still work on the current hardware, you won't have to rubbish your Xbox one. They still know that most people will want the newer hardware so they will turf their first gen Xbox ones anyway, sneaky bastards!
The backwards compatibility, also a nice move! If only the library grew more quickly.
Also, the cross-play with Windows 10 is a nice move, could be one that gains them some ground over Sony. If only all peripherals that work with PC would work with the Xbox one games as well (unlike their streaming to Windows 10 feature which only supported an Xbox controller). This brings me to my last gripe:
Microsoft, being the typically greedy bastards they are, have licensing requirements (I assume) on all of their peripherals such as steering wheels. The variants work only on Xbox one/PC or PS4/PS3/PC. If they can all work on PC they should be able to work across everything. Now who in their right mind would do something like that? The Xbox 360 steering wheels are not even compatible with the One, talk about a money pit. If you do a direct comparison between an Xbox one steering wheel and its PS4 equivalent, you'll notice that the Xbox wheel is notably more expensive, why is that? The PS wheel will even have more buttons and functionality to boot. Just look at the Logitech G920 & G29. Is it because of licensing agreements or because the controller technology or chip can only be purchased from Microsoft? They are screwing us because its a niche market, if it was more widely used there'd be a massive stink about it.

Yes thats the only way to turn XB1 into proper media center. However you'll need a server with enough power to transcode as XB1 has limited codec support.

As a result Plex stutters on my XB1 as HP Microserver is too weak to transcode. PS4 runs perfectly.
