Xbox wireless controller for PC

I have a Xbox with the controllers, but as I understand it the cables you get with are only for charging and not for use on a PC.

So I have two questions.

1: what do I need to use the remotes on my PC?
2: Where can I purchase it? (suggestions)

You need the PC receiver for the controller. Not sure where to get just the receiver. The controller I bought came with one
 
The one I have is a little Chinese knockoff XboX Wireless dongle. It has an extremely long USB cable and some flashy blue LED lights everywhere on the receiver (kinda looks cool actually). Bought it from Zaps here in Randburg (http://www.zapsonline.com/), in-store. It cost me something like 200 bucks (the Microsoft version is probably much more expensive). The driver installation isn't as slick as just clicking "setup.exe" but it's still simple. The thing works like a dream.
They'll probably have it for order online. Otherwise, just Google a bit, there must still be shops around that have them.
Highly recommended purchase (enjoying the crap out of Metro Last Light on my PC in bed right now)

Sorry to hijack , but everywhere I've seen, the controller with the PC adapter is cheaper than the controller alone. Any idea why this is the case?
 
Can't help OP but if anyone in JHB is looking for one there's a shop in JHB South called Tradestation that is selling the original black wireless controller with USB receiver for only R299
 
I got a microsoft control with receiver @ BT Games in Tygervalley Centre in Cape Town for R399 The salesman told me it works on both Xbx and pc and receiver wull work for up to four players (havent tried it yet tho...) works great! I saved a bit of cash cos i wanted to get an original Xbox control

Wow, thats about the price of a normal controller:). Cool will go check it out. Thanx really appreciated.
 
This is what it looks like...


The receiver has a 2m lead on it and a 30 foot range plus connects up to four players so your Xbox buddies can just come with their control

There are tons at the store I mentioned, give them a call and ask them if they'll be able to ship it to you (they're opposite a Post Office). Otherwise I'll do it for you if you pay me for the gamepad and postage

I live close to Tygervalley where there is a BT games. Will go have a look there. But thank you for the offer.
