So xbox 360 (replacement unit number 3) croaked and finally died yesterday - it thinks its a PS3 because when I put a disk in it says "to play this disk please inset into xbox console" or something like that - I wonder if my Xbox is just ashamed of the PS2 next to it to admit its an Xbox?

So anyhow, MI Digital don't like this 3 year warranty thingy - they want R760 or something like that to swap the console, so the question is do I pay that R760 for a console with a lifespan of maybe 6 months or do I trash it and sell my games and get a PS3?

if it has a 3 year warranty, MI Digital has to carry it! otherwise take them to court!

The 3 year warranty is a myth - it doesn't exist, well in SA anyhow, or you get charged a "handling" fee.
Xbox was purchased from Game DEC 2006 - last one was swapped Nov 2007- these only have a life span of 6 months it appears.
As per another thread, I have already been to MI digital, but they want R760 odd - have no idea why - they just do.
I know they charge a handling fee to exchange imported consoles - but they know mine is local - so go figure.
So back to my original ???? - is it worth paying them the R700 - R800 for a console with a limited life span or should I get a PS3?
Oh yes.....they also say that if they swap your console the new one only has a 3 month warranty - though nobody bothers to tell you this.
3 year warranty...yeh right, that is a load of hogwash

Contact Microsoft SA then bru ..... somewhere someone is trying to give you the rip.

Furnic as requested in the previous thread.

Do you have a receipt?
If you do they have to replace it free of charge, if you don't or it's an import then there is a handling charge.

Honestly I would also relook at where you are keeping the Xbox for it to have broken 3 times... It sounds like an environmental issue

Agreed.

If you're keeping it a cabinet try get some ventilation going.

Nope, no external issues, just a poorly made console - my xbox is kept in an open area, well ventilated, and doesn't get moved or dropped or taken places, it stays just where it is.
First one RROD, second one lasted a day - it was faulty out the box and third one lasted 6 months - well actually 3 because the last 3 it has been limping along.
And now you have to pay handling fees... pffft:sick:

If that was the case then all of us would be moaning no? You are obviously having some serious bad luck/are doing something without realising and are on top of that trying to get shafted by MI ...... stand up for your rights irt your 3 year guarantee.

Dude you don't have a receipt do you?

I keep asking the same question and you keep not answering?

I know that MiDigital need a receipt to exchange it. Or failing that a bank statement or credit card statement showing the date and cost of the purchase. Without any of that there is a handling fee.

I am going through the same thing at the moment and it is annoying but it's my own fault for losing that damn receipt

and yip, I have original receipt as well.
probably being shafted, but i suppose thats the price you pay for buying an xbox

So you have the receipt and they are still making you pay handling fees... well that isn't on...

Have you taken it up with Microsoft themselves?
They have to honour the warranty

Okay, I know why they want to charge you - it's not an RRoD. If you bought it dec 06, it's out of normal warranty and if the swap out is 6 months old, the extra 3 months doesn't cover you either.

I don't like the policy either, frankly, but if per some chance your 360 could be coaxed to RRoD, you could get another free swapout....

Exactly spot on. It does RROD on occasion but it still works.
The issue is, no-one tells you the swap out console only has a 3 month warranty - you lerarn the hard way.
I was also under the impression the 3 year warranty is on everthing, as besides the RROD issues these are also known to have DVD issues.

Definitely not - I am just one unhappy chappy

Ok ..... seeing as you asked whether to give up and get a PS3 ... why not dump that old model xbox that's giving you all the hassle and get a new one? Still less than the PS3 and less likely to give you any kark. :D

Dude, if you're getting "intermittent RRoD's" that constitutes an "RRoD failure" and you can swap it out. The "3 months for a repair unit" only applies to common failures, not RRoD. Do not mention the other stuff, you'll only confuse the call centre minions.

In your circumstances, you are still covered by the 3 year warranty covering your initial console. If MI Digital are not following, escalate the issue through their management and or Microsoft, you can quote their own warranty terms:

http://www.xbox.com/en-ZA/support/systemuse/xbox360/resources/warrantyupdate.htm
http://www.xbox.com/en-ZA/support/systemuse/xbox360/resources/warrantyfaq.htm

And don't take any "local' rubbish either. As you can see, both those documents are from the South African web site.

hi. all cables tested fine, pulled them out put them back in, it still wont read disks, it gives that error on the second photo.
red lights not flashing at the moment
