Hey guys,

Just a question, please?

I currently have a PS3 and I think it's time for me to upgrade a bit. I have been looking at both the XBOX One and PS4, but I think I am going to opt for the XBOX.

Now from what I have read it seems that you weren't able to stream media from your PC to the console until quite recently. Is this still the case? I currently use my PS3 to stream series, music and movies to my TV, but if I am unable to with the XBOX then I will rather not get it.

What say you?

Xbox is cheaper , you can get an extra game with that cash, but I would say PS4 you going to get the better multi-plat experience

Xbox is the Ultimate Media Experience between the 2 consoles. Games are cheaper on XBox Live than in the shops and in-store. Controller and exclusives are far better . Some multiplatform games do suffer from inferior graphics to the PS4 but the difference is negligible to the PS4. With the upcoming DX12 release, games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and MGS V will be hitting 1080p.

I have a gaming PC but the Xbox One is my go to gaming machine these days because of 2 free games every month on XBL and EA Access that only costs R299.

PS: XBL Gold subscription costs R500(13 months) vs R749 for PS+.

To answer your question, you can stream just fine between your pc and xbone

I am also leaning towards the XBOX one, but apparently the media centre idea isn't as good as it was promoted to be. I will probably only own Mortal Combat, Tekken and Streetfighter if all is available. Best games to have if your reason is entertaining a few people.

What was nice about the PS3 is that you could have 4 controllers and can have 4 people playing Tekken Tag. Don't think the new consoles allow this though

I stream between my PC and Xbox One, and it works fine. Also used to use my PS3 exclusively for streaming, but the Xbox One has replaced that as I use it for Netflix and also have DSTV plugged into it. The only issue I sometimes have is that my Windows 10 Media Player crashes if the file I'm streaming is too large and I try pause it. But that's more a Windows issue than anything else; just haven't bothered investigating why it happens.

I steam from PC\Laptop and phone to XBONE all the time and it works flawlessly.

What was nice about the PS3 is that you could have 4 remotes and can have 4 people playing Tekken Tag. Don't think the new consoles allow this though

Fifa still allows 4 players on the XBONE.
Pretty sure PS4 does too.

Games like Tekken should be fine for more than 2 players in tag mode too.

The main reason for developers moving away from local multiplayer games on newer consoles is because of split screen being too demanding on the hardware.
Quite a pity though... I loved playing the racing games in split screen mode and now your only option is Forza and GT with down scaled graphics when playing in splitscreen mode.

IIRC, Sony announced at E3 that the PS4 will get media services. I can't remember now but it was something along those lines. Maybe do some quick research.

Streaming to Xbox One is as easy as right click on video/music/picture and then clicking play to Xbox One.

Shot a lot for the comments gents.

Seems I will be getting myself the xbone. :)

I am currently streaming between my Windows 10 tablet and Xbox One in BOTH directions.

You can stream your xbox one dashboard/apps/games to your pc/tablet screen (similar to Steam In-Home Streaming ) .

You can now also stream/project your Android/PC screen to your Xbox One (this is different from streaming a movie), this is like adding a 2nd screen to your PC and extending your desktop to your Xbox/TV (wifi screen). Basically it is Chromecasting/Miracasting without needing any extra device. This is quite neat if you have content you want to get onto your TV without using a long HDMI cable.

And of course, my movie/tv series streaming i do with Plex from my PC to my Xbox (the Plex app is availble on PS4 and XBox One, so this is probably not really different between the consoles).

There's even talks that they want to enable mouse+keyboard integration for the Xbox One. So personally i think Microsoft is going the right direction, especially if you are somewhat between a PC and a Console .

Also if you look at things like Virtual Reality Headsets, Microsoft opted to partner with Oculus Rift (which will be a PC thing) as opposed to building their own thing (HoloLens is different story though ) where Sony is going with their own Project Morpheus. Just knowing the processing power needed to run these VR headsets , my guess is the one compatible with PC with an interface to the console is most likely going to be able to do more in the long run...
