Xenophobia in W Cape

Listening to SAFM last night, some guy called in to comment on the 'xenophobia' attacks in the country (currently reported as being mostly in the W Cape)

First :
I know that the police are adamant that the current attacks on businesses owned by foreigners are not xenophobic attacks, but just ordinary crime. I personally dont think that this is just crime.

Second :
I know that the current attacks are not on the scale of those 2 years ago, but they still bear similar attributes, so I will call them xenophobia.

Back to the caller. He suggested that the attacks are being instigated by a certain political parties(no names) youth wing, especially in the W Cape. His reason for suggesting this was that that youth wing members had publicly stated that they will ' make the province ungovernable'. I think we all know who im talking about here.

I must admit that he had a very good point. The party concerned has lost control of the W Cape, & has resorted to extreme measures in that province to disgrace the current leadership, including destroying structures that the local government had erected for the use of local residents.

Could these attacks the instigated by this youth wing?.......absolutely

The timing is too good, moments after the world cup, when everyone is still in high spirits there is suddenly new attacks, and it happens to be in the WC where a political party threatened to make said province ungovernable?

No, but I had to kind of agree with him on that point.... it is the most simple explanation.

You have to ask yourself... since we just hosted this massive international competition and had thousands of foreigners walking around all welcomed and well received and looked after and not one of them attacked in any kind of racial or xenophobic way... why would we then 24 hours later suddenly start attacking foreigners???

The answer is... it is not Xenophobic at all... it's about taking what they have.

They are not beyond those tactics. Been there done that. After all it is Africa. See a clear example of the ANCYL/ANC tactics of intimidation and smear campaigns

Majority of them are asylum seekers though. Maybe some day, if this country were to turn into Zim 2.0 as has been prophesied on these forums, you might find yourself seeking refuge in another country.
