*Update* Xeon X3460 confirmed to work on H55 Express Chipset utilizing ASUS P7H55D-M EVO
Can this combination be done? I'm getting mixed information online and know that I've seen other sockets+generations of chipsets and processors work fine together, but also know that there are many combinations which do /not/ work together.
I'd like to upgrade my computer's processor with a i7-8xx series or Xeon X3xxx series if I can get ahold of either at a reasonable price, but unless I know that the Xeons will work on the board, getting one would be nothing but risky.
PS: unless you have actually tried this to find that it does or does not work, do not post here saying that it does or does not work. If you've tested an X3xxx on a different LGA 1156 based chipset to the H55 Express and found that it does or does not work, please do post about that, as it will help me get an idea of whether there's any chance that it might work in my situation.
One example where someone is stating that my specific board is running an X3xxx processor (X3440, though I'd be avoiding this one if I could since it's only quad-core without HT).
Also, if anyone has or happens to know someone with an i7-8xx(K) or Xeon X3460 or greater that's interested in selling it, hit me up with an offer.
