Hi,
I can get the XFX ATI 5770 for about R1665 (excluding vat).
I read somewhere that prices should drop soon because Nvidia are coming out with a new card.

Should I wait or buy it?

In my opinion, get it now. nVidias new cards will be expensive as usual, especially given the trouble they are having manufacturing it. Even then, most people agree because of the great cost involved, most of the new chips will go to the workstation cards (quaddro) so availability will be scarce and AMD wont have to budge on their prices for a long time. But only time will tell for sure...

Prices are always going to drop so forget about that just get what is the best at that moment in time. I'm very undecided on the 5770 but i guess at r1600 it's a good buy.

You mean at R1900 (incl VAT). Still a good buy though. I'll sell you mine for 1600 ;) have a 5850 in my PC now so have no use for it. Actually never had a use for it, got the 5850 before I even had chance to install the 5770, lol

You are right, and I knew someone will say "prices are always going to drop"

Final price is R1900

But thats for the Club 3D one. I personally have no experience with that brand, but with most things you get what you pay for. My trust falls to XFX and Sapphire mostly for AMD cards.

@bar1 - what is your primary use for it going to be?

5770 is disappointing performance wise. A 4870 is just about the same. But it is very cool and low powered and does dx11 and should you be tempted to destroy your framerates eyefinity.

club3d is fine.

Well, I would like casually play new games on my 42 inch LCD

I ALMOST made the mistake of getting a 5770... Then I realized that if I trade in my 4870 for that I'd be stupid lol. So I got the 5850 Black Edition and that's a decision im glad I made. 256 bit goodness!

PS: Dont do it dude! Save up a bit more and get a 58xx card.

As far as i know the 4870 can't do dx11

Well he is playing casually, so then he does not want to spend alot of money on it. Then a 5770 starts making sense. But if you dont need DX11 too much you could try going for a 4870. I would get the newer generation though - it runs cooler and needs less power.
And 5850 Black Edition?? You do realise you payed a high premium for only a slight overclock.

......i know 4870 is dx10.1 that's my point.

sadly 5770 tramples your 250 kelevra :p

The Black Edition one was the only 5850 they had :D
