Dikici says that “most” devices can at least support 720p at 30 frames per second 🤢 but that apps will need to opt in “for now” to support AV1 via software decoding. One app that has opted in is YouTube

Funnily enough my Mi Box S has just started offering a 737 MB system update (I checked and the box is currently on Android TV 11). After the issues people reported last time I'll probably wait and see, it's working fine as it is.

The update does not upgrade Android, and I cannot notice any changes either
 
Interesting, thanks for the info. There was an on-screen description which started talking about optimisations and a kernel upgrade but cut off mid-sentence so I was curious about whether the Android version would change.

My 1st Gen S is still working great. I gave my Mi Box 3 to my brother in law back then, he is still using it. Not sure the experience though.
I see some complain about the Gen 2, I don't have experience with that one. Don't know what can be the issue there.

That's the problem ... with this box when you exit an app its not completely dead ... just go into settings and apps and you'll see the last few apps is there and you'll have to long press and "force close" ... I suppose you could go into developer mode and set running apps to less/one ... but the average Joe don't know about messing around with internal settings.

RAM is seriously inexpensive to not make the default at least 4GB

Well I have 2 Ematics that have 2gb ram I think and I have a Apple 4k tv.
Now if you just open the menu, go to Netflix and watch a show or movie, the Ematic is almost just as good and fast as the Apple tv.
The problems start is you start scrolling through stuff or searching a lot. Also things like on Disney plus if you select more like this on a movie and it gives you many options. Then the Ematics start running out of talent and gets stuck or even crash sometimes. The Apple tv just runs the same as when you just select a show, no drop in performance.
