Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi Box S [Android TV OS]

I currently am investigating the MiBox as media center but I need one solution which is probably buried in these 200 odd pages. What is the process to play media from an external hard drive since some experimentation with a friend's shows that it wants to format the hard drive immediately if you connect it?

I tried to connect my cloud server through my wifi but the mi box doesn't see it at all. I tried a usb Hdd direct to mi box and it only see it as storage.

if you get it right let us know?

How else do you want it to be seen, other than as storage?

since I'm not a IT bof like you and others - I was just experimenting. I wanted to if I can access my 6Tb media server.
Which is exactly why you want it seen as storage. I play movies off an external HDD in this way daily.

So much easier to just stream from a PC on the same network, than copying to an hdd.....carrying the hdd to the box and connecting it: "Oops, USB upside down....nope, it was the right side up.....". So much time wasted. Plex ftw!!! Or maybe Plex is to advance for the Amish community?

yes, if you see running multiple machines in the same household.

I just have the MiBox and add new movies for the kids once every couple of months. With Netflix and DStV catchup around there is even less need to add new videos to the HDD.

What is fix for sound cutting out
Only happens on netflix
Connected through hdmi

Have you possibly got link please for add on

Why is the original app not working properly on mibox?
Will do when I'm at my PC, it's a bug in the Amlogic kernel with Dolby Digital Plus.

So what you do is install the addon for Kodi and in the Kodi settings you have it transcode Dolby Digital Plus to Dolby Digital, you also get the benefit of frame rate switching by using Kodi.
