Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi Box S [Android TV OS]

@Nikkel that is awesome news, to confirm that the problems mentioned is localized the few individuals, would you be kind enough to test chromecast, google assistant and few videos in 720p,1080 etc in different codecs(mkv, avi and h264 or h265) to make sure all is well. Will greatly be appreciated;)
At work but will go through those tomorrow as my leave starts then. What I can confirm...Chromecast no issues, Google assistant/remote voice thing works fine. All downloaded vids on PC plays fine via shared network folder on Kodi... H265 I'll confirm later tonight that is if someone doesn't any sooner/later today

Netflix, DSTVNow, Showmax, Kodi no issues... can't comment on more as that's all we use in our bedrooms

That's a relief, thanks and appreciate ;) (Enjoy your leave, mine is ending at weekend:crying:). Ok, I must say I use my box in similar way as yours with network share folder,Kodi and streaming apps. I've read that there is frame-rate switching problem on pie with Kodi regarding jumping from 1080P to 4k etc..but if you're experiences is positive with no juddering op vids etc then I will update as well and test( after I get a TV)

Can't comment on 4k as both rooms have 1080p tv's

Hi. Got mine yesterday ans ran the update to Pie, no problems. Setup Amazon Prime and it's working well, but no 4k. My Fire TV stick did do 4k. Anyway, that is not the problem - this morning i see that the language has defaulted to what looks like Korean and I'm unable to change it back to English

LG TV?

found the issue - had it set to automatic language on the HDMI CEC tab. Cleared it and now it's working again.

We mainly watch Netflix, Showmax and Amazon Prime Video. All of them are installed on our fairly old smart TV.
Recently the Showmax app has decided it will log us out every time we switch exit the app. Retyping the email address and password on a regular basis, using the TV remote is a punishment usually reserved for enemies.

Do all of these apps work on the Mi Box S? Especially Showmax, as Netflix and Prime still works on the TV?

Yes I am using showmax and dstv apps without problem on the Mix box S

Yes, I also watch Showmax and Dstv-Now constantly and reason for buying this box and both work nicely for me and to say also there is no constant logging in

Thanks. I don't have a wired network point in the TV room. I do however have a Ubiquiti WiFi AP. Will this be good enough?

Regarding Showmax, the problem randomly started 3 weeks ago. One morning we woke up and suddenly we had to log in every time. Showmax support was useless.

So hopefully the Mi Box will be the answer.

You should consider the ematic box as well. Same specs as mi box but comes with a LAN (wired conenction) on the box. Always handy to have for future when you may need to move the box where there is poor wifi as cables are always superior. Not sure where the boxes are cheapest but takealot sell the mi box and ematic both at R1299

Pleasure, To note is that the mibox is only wifi connection by default, but most who want to go with ethernet lan connection uses a 3port hub with built in Lan port with no problems( Orico is the brand I use and got from takealot, is mentioned on firts post). I believe your AP will work as it's of knwon trusted brand as well, this box does 2.4ghz and 5ghz, but 5ghz is suggested by most-mine did connect well on a 2.4ghz tplink that was a room away( I do prefer hardwired and is how I now run). There was firmware issues regarding Wifi before Android 8.1, but when I got my box it was already updated to 8.1 with no issues experienced and outperformed my Minix U1 in media playback..no stuttering on all 4k files including 4k HDR, Dolby Vision etc at 30-60FPS(formats avi,mkv,ts,mp4 etc all tested). I pesonally love the Mibox S(google certified and there is only a few of those), but the Ematic is also good bang for buck and the cream is the Nvidia Shield(awesome hardware, but pricey)

Regarding your initial problem, it would be great if your Smart Tv let you access app and let it clear cache etc like on android, is there way to uninstall and reinstall to see if it fixes it to save some bucks before buying?(just to note I received my 55inch Lg 4k smart tv and still testing it and can say thus far, awesome visuals, but not smarter than my mibox regarding apps and usability). Hope it helps and you get sorted because last thing what you need with entertainment is hassle,it's your relaxing time and not getting aggravated time, that I leave for work, lol

^^ last paragraph of advice - try that. First port of call always to uninstall/clear cache , that kind of thing if possible. Like pulling a plug out of a socket after switching it off and hopefully resetting something.
