I am using the following combination: Samsung Smart TV with a Xiaomi Mi TV stick 4K Media Player (bought in March 2022) specifically to watch apps not on Samsung (such as My Family Cinema (MFC)). The Mi Stick has always worked fine when used for Prime app or website streaming.

2 issues we are experiencing:
  • The Mi stick (which is plugged into the TV’s HDMI port) often doesn’t switch on when we turn on the TV (stays on standby). Then we need to reboot it at the plug and wait 10 mins for it to recognize the TV. Then it takes a while to recognize the wifi. These delays are relatively new.
  • The Mi stick remote often doesn’t work and often I need to “reprogram it” (where you hold down the 2 buttons). Or the remote goes crazy. For example: I recently downloaded the MFC app (side loaded) and have found that the Mi stick remote goes crazy when on the app. Very sensitive and often goes haywire selecting a million things. Is this a MFC specific thing? I have tried already to use my Samsung TV remote as a universal remote but unfortunately the model of the Mi Stick isn’t listed for use.
Any thoughts or ideas on how to better the user experience?

Thanks

Thank you, i do probably need some more explanation on this - is this used still with the Xiaomi stick but then sideload these apps instead of MFC?
Yes it's just one app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stremio.one.
1. Install it on your phone and then create an account.
2. Then go to https://alldebrid.com/ or https://real-debrid.com/ and create an account and pay.
3. Go to https://torrentio.strem.fun/configure
3.1 Sort by Seeders
3.2 Select the debrid provider you went with
3.3 Add all/real debrid API key
3.4 Under Debrid options select "Don't show download to debrid links"
3.5 Install the addon
4. Install Stermio on the stick and sign in
5. Bob's your uncle.

Power the Mi Stick from TV usb...

Both of mine is plug into the power bricks. It is in standby mode till you switch it on. If I want to reset I unplug it.

My daughter dont like the MI sticks, and use the PS4 to stream content. My wife prefer the Mi stick.

Our Xiaomi Mi 4K TV Stick, runs 8 + hours a day, without issues, powered from it's brick, and switches on every time my Wife switches the the Samsung TV on.

Not necessarily. Most newer TV's have 500mA and 1A usb ports.
My Mi 4K TV stick runs happily of my TV's 1A usb port 24/7

Yeah, and every one knows the difference, same issue with TV's having numerous HDMI ports, but they don't all support the same standard.

And people just plug whatever, into the first port, they get hold off. Such is life I guess. Not being any the wiser.
