Xiaomi Note 12

Xiaomi phones have endless issues. Hardware and software.
I believe so, so many mixed feelings tho - I have a Note 9S for roughly 3yrs - look, its had a few wonky moments, not enough to find itself down a storm drain

Its now old and showing it and I am so confused what to buy, its like a life or death situation LOL (kidding)

Samsung looks lekker, but, yoh, so pricey

Anyone have any idea when the Note13 pro will be released in South Africa. I have had my Note 10 pro for quite a few years now with no issues. Just feels like it's time for an upgrade.

Also have the Note 9S. But been buying Xiaomi for my wife and family for couple of years now and the same issues crop up in all of them. Also have issues with this one. Will probably look at Samsung A series with NFC, unless we get access to some other brands that does not require grey imports.

I looked at Oppo, lekker specs, but I fear issues too - I have to have NFC now haah, I also want to pay with my phone. The Samsung A54 is mooi, bulky but thats ok. What i like is that its supported well

My old Redmi Note 4 is still running fine.
Note 10 Pro is my daily driver, running fine.
Gf's Pocophone (passed mine along after her Poco got stolen) also running fine.

All on custom roms from day 15 (had to wait the 14 days to unlock their bootloader).

That said, I've noticed the quality degradation from about the Note 10 on launch (touch issues on certain firmware), then a weaker processor on the Note 11 and so forth.

Looking to move to a Pixel 8A or 9 to run GrapheneOS later this year.

Note 4 was the best device, except for the volume and power buttons.

I have really liked my 9s, served me well - especially with it taking major knocks. Little private story, but its ok. I was in ICU after brain surgery, and i felt a seizure (what i thought as i have never had one) come on and couldnt breath. The bell to call the nurse has fallen to the floor and no way to call her, I threw my 9s against the sliding door to get attn and its didnt leave a problem, lol, or did it?

Much cheaper directly from Amazon.
The price see-saws all the time, between 11-16k ZAR.

I decided to wait for the pixel8A at least to see what they're offering. It's very poor form from Google to withhold features from the P8 vs P8pro for no reason other than trying to up-sell clients.

Unfortunately Xiaomi's been dropping the ball the last few years in quality and price so I feel forced to move on. It was a really good run though and I saved a lot of money and got good affordable hardware which was capable of running custom roms.

With SA's ties growing stronger to the CCP / BRICS countries I'm adapting my risk management to fear China more and the US 5 Eyes surveillance on a slightly lower bar as far as real life consequences.
In other words, with authoritarianism and government surveillance on the rise and the ANC cosying up with the CCP, I foresee a higher likelyhood of them sharing surveillance information than an agreement taking place between the US and ANC in the next 20 years to control SA citizens.

Sorry if off-topic, but that's why I'm not buying the Note 12 like I planned to, to replace my aging Note 10.

sorry havent really followed the thread, why are you fixed on the Chinese products ? updates and security fixes are sketchy at best ,have you looked at any of the new Motorola phones ?
You, of course, do know that Lenovo owns Motorola? And of course you do know that Lenovo is a Chinese company?

I used NFC on Note 12 to pay my pub bill today (first time I have tried an NFC payment) and it worked like a charm once I figured out what Std Bank wanted.
