Xiaomi Redmi Note 4/4X

Got an email from gearbest for the 4X @ $138.
Sigh the temptation.

Yup that's the one.
Did not realise there's a difference between the note and redmi.

So this is the desirable one?

My poor Phone now only last 2 days (38% at end of day 2) Thanx to Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi, and LTE always being on. Guess using Bluetooth headphones every day also takes its toll. Would hate to know how fast all of this would suck other phones dry.

Add to that the R/$ exchange rate being what it is making it a bargen and a half. 1773.00

Can you imagine what we would be paying if a certain bright spark CEO of the country did not mess with our economy. In 2010 the rand was at R 7.00 = $ 1.00. At that exchange rate you would be paying like R 900 for a new Xiaomi Note 4X

AlphaJohn,

Can I link this thread of yours in my Xiaomi thread as a reference? I like what you have done with the table comparing the different models in the first post!

I see the Xiaomi redmi Note 4X (Pro/High) has been released in China so I suspect it going to poping up on stores everywhere.

It will have 4Gig Ram and 64 gig Storage as well as sporting the MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor clocked at 2.1GHz found on the Note 4's instead of the SD625. Rest of the specs are all the same.

When I saw MIA tweet this yesterday, I read the review of the 3GB Note 4 Snapdragon on GSMArena. Clearly, while battery endurance is greatly enhanced, the device is not as powerful as the Note 3.

This brings me to the question - has anyone got hands feedback of Note 3 versus Note 4? I was keen to sell my Note 3 and go Note 4, but besides battery, there doesn't seem to be much point. Added to this, they have gone backwards with the design - can;t understand why the Mediatek received the better exterior while the Note 4 SD is more like the Note 3.

The main reason they did that was because of the main market of the device (India) where people are more concerned about phones heating up. The SD 625 barely heats up even when playing games. If you looking for an upgrade from a Note 3 they have you covered as well with the MTK variants that is seen as the "Pro" versions.

Phones do slow down when gaming in order to prevent overheating, this of course is not an issue with the SD625 chips as they run cool even at max clock speed. Personally I prefer what they did there. I used both MTK and SD versions of the Note 4 and find that you barely notice the speed drop (Only in games to be honest) and would much rather have the phone last an extra day than the speed for one or 2 apps.

Antutu scores:
Note 4X MTK: 90.057 Released 2017, May
Note 4 SD: 61.718 Released 2017, January
Note 4X SD: 61.718 Released 2017, February
Note 4 MTK: 84.926 Released 2016, August
Note 3 SD: 78.252 Released 2016, February
Note 3 MTK: 49.201 Released 2015, November
Note 2 MTK: 48.022 Released 2015, August

Question: Would I upgrade from Note 3 SD - to any Note 4.
Answer: No. It is a more refined phone with very small tweaks that is not really worth the money to buy a new phone that is 6 months to a year older. I would much rather wait for Note 5.

Question: Would I upgrade from Note 2 or Note 3 MTK
Answer: Hell yes.

So my note 4 arrived today. Time to play a bit tonight. Been a while since I've had an Android device, should be a bit of fun.

Thanks AlphaJohn. Quite happy to follow your advice re Note 5

Have the Note 3 SD myself and a friend of mine should receive the Note 4X SD in a week or two then I'll be able to do a thorough comparison.

Mainly the batterylife between the two seems to be the biggest upgrade from what I've read.

If I had to upgrade right now I'd either go for the Mi Max 2 or look into the Oukitel K10000 Pro. My biggest concern with the Oukitel is the lack of XDA support / privacy unknowns. The phone specs is amazing for the price though.

So stoked. This little phone is a gem. Got DSTV casting working on my Chromecast. Plus I've gotten WhatsApp calling working which never worked for me on my iPhone in the UAE.
