Xiaomi Repair Conudrum (Redmi etc)

Hi All

So I'm seriously considering a new Redmi for Xmas. All reviews seem good, so as a last check I went on to the Miui South Africa Facebook page.

A lot of people love the phones, but it is clear that getting one of them repaired; and even getting some feedback on queries, is an almost impossible task in SA.

I also popped in at We/iFix and they dont even know about these phones...?

*Anyone out there with some experience or info in this regard??
A Redmi-3s is over R3000, so not sommer good to chuck in the bin if it breaks... :erm:
 
I bought a Redmi Note 2 quite a while back. One of the best phones I have ever used. Never had an issue from day one. As for repairs, Mobile In Africa Group (MIA) is the distributor locally, so they should provide you with repair/warranty services.
 
I used the Redmi 2, Mi 4 and now the Redmi Note 2. I've also "converted" 4 family members to Xiaomi. In my opinion they offer the best bang for buck and the build quality, software and hardware is excellent. As for repairs I haven't come across anyone who needed to get a phone repaired but I'm sure that will not be a problem.

Agree 100% with you. I went from Samsung S5 to Redmi Note 2, and in my opinion the Redmi blows the samsung out of the water in terms of responsiveness & featureset. I do not use my phone for gaming at all, so I have no idea how it performs in that area, but in terms of productivity, this phone is a tank.
 
If you want it repaired then send it back to the retailer and they send it to MIA. Same as you would with LG, Sony and Lumia.
 
So, for now, an extended guarantee at the place of purchase is not a bad idea - just in case it slips from your hand to slap the kitchen tile :p

Being able to post/access this forum usually means a, b and some times c can be acheived.. go figure

That's pretty impressive, The note 2 is also quite cheap these days, around R1800 I think?

I'm also worried about the repair turn around on Xiaomi and Hauwei phones, even LG which is a pretty well entrenched brand is a bit of a pita to get fixed, they have to send it away, Samsung the service providers can normally repair onsite asap. Which makes me leery of LG in future and even more so with these new Chinese makes, just about zero independent phone shops will have spares or repairs know how, no cheap Pakistani screen replacement etc on a Xiaomi for a good while to come.

With Hauwei you can take your device to any iFix store as they are now agents.
 
Been asking around for months for a replacement screen on the wife's Xiaomi. Tonight i decided to Google and found a repair centre (Bedfordview) inside of 5 minutes eish. Hope this helps the OP and anyone else out there. Pricing is fair, considering availability, and includes repair cost. Free shipping on repairs over R1000.
 
I just checked and Xiaomi updated their SA online store website

In Jan they only sold the Redmi Note 2 but must have recently added the Redmi Note 3.

The 4X was recently released so overseas so the local store is two version behind and seems to be used as a way to flog old versions to Africa.
