XP Black Edition

Its simply a version of XP that has been slipstreamed by a third party. Like that "SP3" by Amit Talkin when he changed the skin and installed Firefox

I do not see the OP's obsession with "XP Black Edition", the licence keys won't correspond, he won't have licences for all the software. XP Black is a generic term, he could find a totally different version than what he is expecting. Anything can be pre-installed, trojans etc. These things are done by people in Singapore, Thailand, India. They can put anything in there.

If he's bored and want to play with XP he can do a amateur strip down, go to control panel Add/Remove Windows components anything else sounds beyond his depth if he's this exited about "XP Black Edition"

Then go get a nice Alienware desktop background. Then go twitch your thumbs looking at it.

I just thought the black edition looked really good and it was faste and came pre-installed with cool things etc.

That's probably what my brother thought when he installed that Amit Talkin "SP3" crap. Ooh it comes with a Ferrari background standard, ooh the start button blinks when you hover over it. Amit took out what he thought was non-essential (important Windows components) and replaced it with what he thought was essential (Firefox, Nero). Read that last sentence again to see whats wrong with third party slipstreaming. I have done some slipstreaming to install drivers that wouldn't install otherwise. But besides the legal ramifications of the pre-installed software (not sure if you care), there is no way to see what else is going on under the hood (even with install options), example Firefox is open-source, it could have been compiled with a virus/trojan then integrated. But go ahead it is your computer.

Why so hostile mr?

Tough Love! Only looking out for you Pooky, I know it sounds novel and all to some but why not install the software on a clean installaion and skin it nicely  No difference.

If I bring you a dirty skank from the streets of Jakarta or Bangkok are you going to bang her without a condom? No! You do not know where she has been. Same thing with third party slipstreaming.

And trust him, Pooks - There are LOTS of dirty skanks out there!:D

Horrible images conjured up in my mind:wtf:

You can simply use your own product key to make it legal. And I have never found any viruses on it. I suppose there might be versions with viruses, but I have never come across one. I guess that was a rumour started by Microsoft to scare people away from using it.

The only turn off is that most people like to configure their own PCs the way they like them.

The version i have installs on it's own (so it configure everything for you after the blue screen where you select your hdd and format it) so it uses some arb product key and an activation crack. Once it had installed i loaded AVG and it picked up a number me viruses, after that i just use plain old xp x64 or Windows 7 x64

If you just want the black edition for the look download a program called "vista inspirate" or "vista transformation pack"

The apps that are installed with xp black edition will probably be old and outdated anyway (newer versions of the apps it installs will most likely be out)

...by all accounts of what I have found online in my brief search the black edition is full of viruses and trojans and does not install properly! ;)

Nice link and use of satire lol :D.
