yes you can join a domain, at install time only, this is a flaw and unintentional. not exactly something they write about on the product box.
you still cant manipulate this entry post install. call it what you want.

But as the product is meant to be OEM pre-installed, YOU (as you are not an OEM) should never ever have seen that option, as you wouldnt have installed it yourself.

So, product brief, can mce2005 join a domain? answer: no.
unintentional answer: anything is possible, as always.

if mce could join a domain, in the traditional sense, then OEM's wouldve dumped xppro like a hot potato and started shipping the $25 cheaper mce to all their business customers. a 4year old could figure that one out.

And you don't suspect that maybe, by some small chance, I joined the domain on install by some chance? <-- can't verify that because I can't remember that far back.

What I do know is I log on to the MCE machine using a domain account, and did not use any hack in joining the PC to the domain, thats why I didn't even know MCE2005 couldn't be joined to a domain.

look charlie, i believe you, you are on a domain.
I know how to get it onto a domain too, I've even described how to do it. and as before, the product is not meant to be installed by an end user, so to all intents and purposes we can forget about that little loophole.

But that doesnt change the fact that mce2k5 cant join a domain. Is that so difficult to understand? Maybe you got it working (somehow, you cant remember) and others can get it to work too, but it is unintentional and not by design, and not a product feature and the gui tools were REMOVED on purpose from 2005 to make sure it cant join a domain (they were present in 2004) so people should get the message that it cannot be part of a domain.


And lo and behold, if you get it onto a domain, then your extender functionality will break. So what is the point really..

nt4workstation could be turned into nt4server. That doesnt mean you can call a statement "nt4workstation makes a great server" true...it is still false.
 
If you actually read (try it sometime, eric)... I didnt argue about MCE2005 being able to join a domain, I was merely stating mine is on the domain, and joined hassle free, if, according to you, it joins without a problem during installation, then thats probably how mine got on.

I'm quite happy with the fact that MCE2005 is not meant to join a domain, doesn't bother me one bit.

With regards to extenders and being on the domain, I wouldn't know, I don't have an extender.

To me there is a point of being on a domain... and no point in using an extender, so, there is a point - really.

So thats why M$ certified people only get R2 800 pm IF they get a job these days and not +/- 16K pm(starting salary) like they used to about 6 years ago!

Out of interest, do you even know what the current need/market is for a .NET developer? Probably not, with 16k a month you wont have much left for broadband.

Obviously a slow learner - one thing a day, and its wrong.

Being a contractor has its benefits... specializing in Microsoft development, C#,VB.NET,SSIS,SSAS,SQL...etc... pays well at the moment, but the hours are long.
 
The only reason I mentioned it is cause wanna be trolls like jsxza annoy me with their 'little' remarks... Bet I could mention more than 50 well paid MCSE/MCSD men AND woman, in South Africa...
