Simple one, but wish to make sure...

An old office machine running XP faithfully sitting in a corner , with a 20 GB IDE drive....

The English HO moaning that there is no more space left on Drive. 201mb.

I thought, find an old 80 Gb that I have lying around, format it to NTFS and then mirror the original 20gb onto the 80 Gb and replace....

Will this work or will I encounter endless headaches?

yours SIncerely

Don't need to format. Just image sector by sector the entire drive. Resize partition later, it is up to you. Some utilities will offer to resize during copying, but default is to resize partitions proportionally, it is not what you should do. Usually you need to resize only the main partition leaving other partitions unchanged.

If your computer has also SATA interface, SATA drive will work as well, it will be easier to find. /edited/

I used Acronus True Image to migrate my OS & games to 2 drives, a bigger one each time. Worked flawlessly.
