Hi to all the XP Guru's out there
I have to do an XP Pro install in a computer lab of 64 PC's. My initial thought was this is easy, make a smallish DOS partition, create a directory i386 on the HDD and copy the contents of the i386 folder on the XP CD to the i386 folder on the HDD of each PC.
So a search revealed that my idea might work, but how wrong was I. During the copying or actually I use xcopy [source-drive] *.* [destination-drive] /s /e the copy process starts and seems to be working fine, until the very last couple of folder and files the following message gets displayed on the screen D:\ path not found D:\Win9xupg path not found ans so on and eventually the message "All files and directories not copied", with D being the CD-ROM drive letter. I also changed the actual CD-ROM disc, but still the same as above.
I must add that for the last couple of years I have been using the above method to succesfully maintain Windows 2000 Pro/2000 Server and 2003 Server R2 with all the unattended installation files.
Maybe there is a very wise person out there that can tell me what is wrong or what should I do.
Thank you in advance
