XP SP3 is up for those that only have local bandwidth. Been using it for a while and it seems fine. It will reset some customised things back to default, like some icons and the startup screen etc.

(Split RAR archive)
ftp://ftp.uunet.co.za/pub/incoming/XP-SP3/

It's also up here as a single file, which is a little more convenient but if something goes wrong with the download you will have to re-download it all.

ftp://ftp.agasa.co.za/other/drivers/servicepacks/WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe

If you're using non Microsoft themes and install SP3 you will need a new Uxtheme.dll as the one for SP2 doesn't seem to work anymore, you can grab one for SP3 here...

Guys this is the RTM version, it's the same you will get from Microsoft publicly on the 29th, it has been out since the 21st when they released it to EOM manufacturers, ie it is not beta or one of the RC releases.

I already posted, I tested that release, I didn't get it from that ftp, I got it from the News server but the file build numbers match and the files match the catalog which was issued my Microsoft.

Not that it matters because the CONFIRMED MD5 for the official release directly from Microsoft TechNET/MSDN website is: BB25707C919DD835A9D9706B5725AF58

And the file I got that was released by that same release group matched that MD5, so unless they changed it before uploading that is the actual Windows XP SP3 release currently available to MSDN subscribers.

Juggy, the best way to get it from there would be an FTP client (filezilla is a free working FTP client, thought not the best), but there are other ways for example you could just paste the link into your windows explorer address bar.

You will need all the files then extract it with WinRar.

Thanks, I fgured I could simply use Free Download Manager but it was wanting a user and pass. I tried anonymous and my email but that didn't work either

No, it hasn't been released to general public, that happens on the 29th.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 was RTM (Released to Manufacturing) on Monday the 21st of April.

The very next day (22nd) it was released to Microsoft TechNET/MSDN subscribers.

That is why I said the MD5 above is the confirmed MD5 used on the MSDN release.

Not that it matters because I also checked the catalog files and they match the files. The catalogs cannot be faked. All the files also match the build number 5512 which has been confirmed on the Technet/MSDN forum by Microsoft SP3 developers.

If the file you have matches the MD5 I provided above IT IS the official Windows XP SP3 release ;)

So what is the difference between a RTM version and a RTP (plebs :p) version?

For Windows XP there has been no difference and usually there is never a difference. Only Windows Vista SP1 had a difference because of a well known bug that caused the PC to go into a restart cycle after installing the SP. That issue was confirmed in one of the Windows XP SP3 Beta releases and fixes back then, so unless some bug pops up in the next few days it will be exactly the same. If you want to know why they have these strange release cycles google it ;) There are many reasons

Is Remote desktop fixed on this ?

Yep

pffft! installed SP3 [non-final] on my old PC and... BSOD as soon as it started up. I though final was only being released at the end of the month?
