Xperia Z3 CyanogenMod

Any one install CyanogenMod on their device? Any advice?

I want to try it, first timer, on an Xperia Z3, any step by step sites you recommend?

Also, are Cyanogenmods built from AOSP or just compliments Sony's existing software?

I dont really like AOSP, as i rely too much on Sony's little apps and features, wouldn't want to loose that. Did install Nougat AOSP, very basic for me, went back to Sony's Marshmallow

You will lose Sony's apps and features unless they have released apps to the play store for what you are looking for.
Most of the time, people install AOSP or Cyanogenmod to get basic features and lose all the bloatware associated with brandnames.
I would recommend you stick with Sony firmware if you want to keep the Sony features.

Backup you current ROM, install CM, test, restore if you don't like.
