Android phone corrupted - Needs repair

Those recommending Odin- you do realise that it is a Samsung-only piece of software, right? No other OEM implements download mode, and Odin itself was based on leaked Samsung software.

Anyway- OP, if you're able to boot into recovery, are you not able to boot into fastboot mode?

EDIT: Also, which version of CM did you install?

EDIT 2: Oh, nevermind, read your thread on XDA. I think what you need to do is to boot into fastboot mode, flash TWRP, then fix permissions. CWM does not support the new permissions model implemented by KitKat.

Yes, I'm able to boot into fastboot mode.

I didn't install and CM (since it always failed), but I tried a couple of them. There is an unofficial version of CM 11 for Xperia M on XDA. I've tried beta 2 (which worked on my phone for more than 2 months) and eta 3, both failed.

Can you run through the steps you followed to flash beta 3?

1. Boot into fastboot
2. Flash boot.img (from the CM zip) to phone
3. Boot into CWM
4. Follow the normal "clean" steps (aka: clear cache, wipe data, factory reset, wipe dalvik cache)
5. Install zip from SD card
6. Installing zip failed with symlink error

Sounds like a run of the mill (semi) soft brick.

If this was a Samsung phone, Odin would sort you out easily. So try Emma, the Sony version. Haven't used it in a while but it does seem similar to a problem I had with my S3. I was trying to install a new Omega ROM and my CWM recovery was incompatible, so it couldn't boot up, it kept showing the Galaxy S3 logo and then going into recovery.

So, get the latest version of CWM for your phone, and flash it with the EMMA tool, then install the Cyanogen ZIP again from CWM recovery.

Emma was also one of my tries.

As far as I'm aware, Sony doesn't activly develope Emma anymore. In any case, since my Xperia M is a relativly "new" phone, Emma detects that the phone was connected, but lists it as "unknown/unsupported" device (even with the latest version of Emma).

When you go to http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/supported_phones/, you will see that Xperia M is not listed.

I dunno, then. Perhaps flash the stock recovery and take it in to Sony?

I've now send an email to Sony SA in order to determine what their policies are. On the site where you get your unlock code for Sony devices, it was stated that you will lose the warranty and if you send it in for repairs it will cost a "substantial" amount of money to repair. So I'm waiting for Sony's reply on what exactly "substantial" means.

No, they state it may void your warranty.

Surely they must have a similar tool, or still update the existing one, as new Xperia phones are still being released?

Well I haven't heard of any one. There is a free tool called Falshtool specifically for Sony devices which everyone who owns a Sony uses. But that tool also gives me an error and no one knows why

I'd start my investigation there. Try and look on the forums, read instructions, etc. What kind of error?

Seems there's another XDA user with the same problem, looks like they partially fixed it, although not really:

It may be the hardware after all....

I haven't used an Xperia in years, been spoiled with all the great tools available for Samsung phones these days.
