We are renting a flat attached to our landlords house. He heard that extra view would only cost R60 a month and offered this to us provided that we buy our own equipment. We bought an 1110 decoder and blasters and got everything set up in November 2009. Yesterday he came to us with our decoder and a bill that showed that multichoice billed him extra R499 every month WITH the R60 for the extra view!!?? He told us that this is a "new" thing that they are doing. He also has a duel view at his own house though. I just want to hear what you guys think, do you think that dstv does charge an extra R499 every month for extra view or is it JUST a R60 every month?

Thanks

B

if he had the old duel view decoder then you cant have extra view so you pay a full dstv subcription for your 1110 decoderof R499 and he pays a duelview subscription of R499 +R60.
if he has an SD PVR he is ripping you off as the total subscription for an SD pVR and a 1110 R499 +R60

Well i doubt its 100% legal - but if you have 2 1110 decoders its the standard subscription + R60 for both:

More great news - the only additional monthly cost (over and above your standard subscription) is the R60 access fee. A Decoder Care Contract (DCC) for each decoder is optional. (1)

Depends on the actual setup he has, but it sounds to me like he is trying to get you to pay for his TV bill

The setup: SD PVR + 1110
Before we bought and installed everything, we even consulted with a tv tech that does dstv installations for a living. Looks like he was full of bs just to make a quick buck

Yes babe, I think this IS the case. I cant see the point of extra view if you have to pay R499 AND R60. Whats the point then??

Anyways, guess we have to pay R499 for everymonth since November then.

The SD PVR can only be set up for Xtraview with an HD PVR. You were definitely being ripped off, but by the installer.

Wops quntum is right my first post was a typo? should read HD pvr (not SD pvr)

@Boernooi but you land lord is still also ripping you off, you should only pay R499 as you only have one decoder and 1 viewing enviroemtn. he on the other hand has an SD PVR subscription on that is R499+R60

what i would recomend is have the subscription on your decoder on your own name keep the decoder in your flat and run the cable directly to the LNB at the dish , that way you only pay for what you are using (R499), not the R60 extra that your landlord wants you to pay. its legal as sharing 1 dish is allowed.

sorry and see here for costings from DSTV:

Go to www.dstv.com, Xtraview is for the old 1100 decoders, the new 990s, SD PVR and HD PVR, if you have any of those you can mix and match. He is ripping you off and there is no new thing from DSTV, that is how extra view works he pays R499+R60 for PVR functionality, you pay the R60 for Xtra-view capabilities

2. What XtraView combos are available?

1110 + 1110 2 0 0 0 Base + R60
HD PVR + 1110 2 1 2 150 Hours (2) Base + R60
HD PVR + HD PVR 2 2 4 300 Hours (2) Base + R60
HD PVR + SD PVR 3 3 3 230 Hours (2) Base + R60

Please note : Although the SD PVR is XtraView capable, SD PVR + SD PVR and SD PVR + 1110 are not available as XtraView combos.

You obviously do not have a clue...

SD PVR can only go with HD PVR. 990 is not Xtraview capable... only 1110 and 1131

And its only 1x R60 for PVR functions & Xtraview, not one for each

ok... just incase my landlord actually reads this. I dont think he is a dumbass, nore do I think he is ripping me off, I DO however know that someone lied to him and to me and that something whack is going on on his DSTV bill. We were both told that the xtra view would ONLY cost R60 p/m and there was an extra R499 being billed too. Our landlords have actually been nothing but good landlords to us in the time that we've lived here and we have respect for them. I would just like to get to the bottom of this.

sorry didnt mean any thing by it. just looked to me liek he was riping you off or he was bamboozeld by the installer

heres what i figure hapend your landlord has 2 (SD PVR)viewing enviroments so he curently pays a subscription of r499 +R60
He was (incorectly)told he could have a third eviroment for only R60 more, which being nice he offerd this to you.
multi choice bills him his current subscription (r499+R60) and another xtraview subscription of (r499+R60) as he probably requested it as extraview.
He needs to call multichoce and cancell your subscription,, and like i said before move it to you own name that way you get the bill and he wont get double billed.

Isie, thanks for the insight, but we are moving out here by the end of the month to a new house.

Okay so I misinterpreted the ad they keep broadcasting, my apologies it is only the HD PVR and 1110.
