Hi,

Pretty much decided on X-trail. So don't want to get into other options just yet. This is a question on the update (new) vs. a 2nd hand old spec. The update actually has a reduced retail price.

See the difference including price in the pic below. Am I making a mistake by going 2nd hand old spec? I like them safety tech in the new model, not sure it's worth it though.

Can you afford the new one because thats quite a big price difference between the new and old one.

That's would be a no-brainer for me; go for the 2nd hand old spec and rather save extra into your bond!

I would go pre-facelift, but avoid the petrol engines it is old and thirsty. Rather for the diesel.

Yeah I see that. However, the power on the diesel concerns me since I want to be able to accelerate at speed (overtaking). 96 vs 126 kW and 320 vs 200 Nm.

You need low down torque for overtaking, diesel overtake much better. The petrol takes time to built up power.

I have dongle connected to my car to see live stats when I drive, I hardly ever go over 70kw of power when pushing to 120km/h, through the torque I consistently max out. This is on 320d.

The 2.5L N/A engines comes all way from the 2000s, where the 1.6D was first fitted in 2011. So it is much newer engine.

The turbo on the Diesels helps for overtaking especially at altitude.not only because its a diesel, with low down torque.Take that turbo away and you wont overtake a Cortina on the R300
