Xtreamer Pro - where?

Thanks for the heads-up. Cancelled my order with xtreamer and picked one up. Works well!

I am considering buying one myself. How does it handle? any cons so far?

None yet - waiting for a 1Tb to fit, so played files off my NAS. Played everything I tried. Interface was good, responsiveness really good. Considering its extra functionality relative to my Dlink NAS, and the price, I'm not going to complain. But I'm sure there will be the odd bug!

I find with the mede8er if one enables NAS mode, the naviagtion lags a bit.

But for the price of a xtreamer Pro, considering it has 2 hdd bays, NAS mode and still a media player is not bad...

no longer looking - did a bit of reading.
1.) Claimed HD sound doesn't work.
2.) Performance issues.
3.) Support is terrible.
4.) Questioning the product, and when certain advertised working features (TrueHD) will actually work gets a very rude response, or banning on their forums.

Some of the reasons why I sold my PlayonHD. It's better doing some research before buying on of these standalone media players. The PlayonHD played everything it was supposed to, but it just had some minor issues which just became bigger issues with time. The support is absolutely terrible. Almost every issue gets replied with "format the drive from the device" or "try another firmware" etc. Feedback from the developers are non-existent. You just have a couple of mods on the forums trying to come up with excuses. If you're just looking for something that will play the movies, then go for it. But don't expect anything extra. Something like YAMJ support, which was a big reason why I bought it, doesn't work properly. And you have to like navigate to 10 different screen to finally get there.

Anyways, I went back to a Media Centre PC and MediaPortal. It's a 1000 times better and you actually get fantastic support and feedback on their forums. I hear XBMC is just as good. Almost the same price for a Media Centre PC as for one of these devices. I paid in total R1950. Media Centre Case = R200, 400watt PSU = R150, MB = R450, Dual Core 2.7ghz CPU = R650, Gfx Card with Hdmi out = R400, remote control = R100. Had some extra ram that I used.

I'm also thinking of just upgrading my media center.... I have a R3500 case after all :p

If you haven't - try boxee.tv if you're not using a tv tuner card - I prefer it over the other media center software I've tried.

Well that's more than enough.

I tried Boxee about 6 months ago. Looked great, but I just didn't find it as user-friendly as MediaPortal. Probably a newer release out by now, maybe I'll give it a go again.
