Xtreamer Pro - Why shouldn't I get one?

The problem with a HTPC in my experience, is that it's nigh on impossible to find an affordable, decent looking chassis for the things. The only brand I've found that actually look really nice, go for R5k+, which pretty much scraps that idea.

@NBS, do you have pics of your set up?

I just installed XBMC on my lappy and already I can't wait to test it on my Samsung PS50C430 I bought few days ago from Cats. I will be getting my PC end of this month also. I thought of buying Mede8ter, WD, or whatever, but seeing that my pc will be about 3m away from my plasma, I might as well save that R1k and just buy the remote (I like that Compro K300) and a longer HDMI cable.

What cable did you use to connect to your plasma? Do you need a powerful GPU?

I will be buying the Club3D Radeon HD 5670 1GB. I hope it will be enough. I see problems when I want to work on my pc and someone wants to watch some movie since my pc won't be a dedicated HTPC.

I've got the 5570 in my htpc and it works great haven't had any issues, playing crysis 2 on it at the moment with the gamer settings.

I will see if I can take a photo or two tonigt and post it here :)
I have the compro K300 remote, it works with XBMC, but I don’t know if its just me, but the IR sensitivity is much higher than that of an normal remote, someone on one of the other threads recommended this to me, he said it works like a dream

I also thought this looked quite nice, looks like a mouse, keyboard and remote all in one

I used a HDMI cable, the motherboard I bought has an HDMI and a DVI output (http://www.prophecy.co.za/intel-dh67bl-bearup-lake-lga1155-dualchannel-ddr3-pcie-p-87345.html) and the processor I use is the 1155 i3 (sandy bridge), what makes these CPU’s so unique is it has a HD decoder build in, the GPU is actually build on the CPU, so you don’t need and additional GPU, for 1080P movies or anything media related, it works like an charm, even when my GF is watching a 720p movie on the plasma, I can still play cricket Captain without any glitches whatsoever, if you are going to play demanding games, then yes, die Radeon will probably be sufficient, but it depends on what and what your computer specs will be

Considering dusting off the old XBox and converting it into an XBMC media player...

You can always expand with external HDDs or NAS. (The thermaltake DH101 can take 5 internal HDD + an optical drive)

Ja nee, the Thermaltake DH101 looks awesome, if money was not an issue, i would have bought this box with a huge smile, but R3000 for the Hardware + R3000 for the box, it’s just getting to expensive, but still, would be an awesome setup!!

xbmc4xbox ;-)

Though I am about to upgrade my PC so I think the old AMD will suffice as a media centre.
xbmc4xbox is a dumbed down version of the latest because the original xbox doesn't have the needed processing power anymore. :p
