VoIP via satellite such as Yahclick could be the answer to the rural problem of stolen copper and nonexistent GSM.

What if the user site is behind a mountain or in a deep valley? Think of the Koo at Montagu, Cederberg farmers, small farms behind Simon's Town moumtains? Isn't line of site required for bi-directional comms? Check Plateau Rd on Google Eart to see what I mean.

The elevation for Yahclick is in the region of 45 degrees, so you would have to be pretty well dug in not to be able to see the satellite.
