Yahoo Mail doesn't work correctly

you can use a program called ypop or something, which gives you pop access to yahoo, although the program will have to be running when you downloading mail with outlook. See http://www.ypopsemail.com/ . However I suggest that you get a Gmail account, much better than yahoo, free pop access, almost tripple the storage, free forwarding, intergrated chat, etc. If you want a gmail invite just pm your current email address.

If it's transparent then how do you know it's there? I only got this problem when specifically using a proxy. What most people refer to as a transparent proxy is just the server relaying your request to the website.

It is a transparent proxy (nearly all ISP's have one to reduce bandwidth).
I can tell because Yahoo works on other connections on the same pc at almost the same time.

I suggest you make sure all your settings are correct and if you're using Opera make sure the browser identification is set correctly. It's remarkable what problems that can cause, just ask adsl3g.

The setting are correct as tested on other connections. Using IE and FF it does not work at times for days via 3G. Then all of a sudden the proxy updates correctly and it works.

This doesn't help if the client has paid for domain registered mail from yahoo.

All I ask is for vodacom to fix their settings so the problem doesn't keep on Recurring. Our clients are fuming when they cannot access business critical mail do to this stupid problem.

I think only the Yahoo Uk pop access is free, the .com pop access is not free so you will have to use ypop

Its a transparent proxy so unless I got another proxy how can I bypass it?
It is a proxy problem, but it's much more likely the ssl and not an updating problem. Just use it without the proxy.
If it is a transparent proxy problem, then the solution might be as simple as changing the url from http://... to https://... - that's assuming that Yahoo [which I don't use at all] supports encryption for that site url...

Yahoo UK pop settings

Hi

The free pop access is for Yahoo UK only.

Details below:

Server Tab
My Incoming Mail server is a POP3 server
Incoming Mail(POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Outgoing Mail(SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Tick my server requires authentication--->use same settings as incoming mail server

Advanced Tab
Server port numbers
Incoming Mail(POP3): 587
Outgoing Mail(SMTP): 110

(Don't tick server requires secure connection)

(When in the yahoo webmail click on options then pop access and forwarding to find the above settings)

I think it defaults to https. Not too sure though because there is a different login server depending where on the site you log in. Hmmm, doesn't seem to do that anymore with the new Yahoo Mail "Beta". I still don't buy the proxy theory, even if it's transparent. Yahoo assignes a random 13 character string to the url if you log out of your account. A proxy would have to request the page directly from the server since it wouldn't have the page in its cache. I couldn't log into my account most of the time while I had it configured to use a proxy, but on my phone I could use it even through the proxy. Seems ssl is very temperamental with some browser configurations. Also user agent strings together with the isp specific string could have an impact which explains why it's only a problem with some isps.
