The company I worked for did not allow alcohol at its year-end functions for a few years now. Because the function was held during office hours, they said it was not allowed. You could buy your own alcoholic drinks after 4pm if the function still carried on.

To hold it during office hours was a choice made by the workers, they did not want it to be after hours. In previous years alcoholic beverages were limited to two per person at the function, but that was stopped in the more recent functions.

This year's one starts at 11AM, so that's all right. When 3:30 comes around I will head home. Reasonable methinks

My idiots are doing it at a themed restaurant on a Friday night. I declined, which started rebellion and another 2 of the 10 people have pulled out. I also don't appreciate that the construction teams and warehouse staff were not invited. I cannot align with that sort of skullduggery.

Wow some of you guys work at some sad sad companies.

Ours is always an all day all out event at some exotic location with no restrictions on food or booze and transportation provided as well to anyone who wants it.

Usually plenty of swag as well.

It’s an event everyone is excited about all year and devastated to miss if they can’t make it for whatever reason.

I think it's a mixture of "sad companies"' + anti-social furkers here (many).

I'm happy to be proven wrong but I'm old & ugly enough here to know fairly confidently that this is a major reason.
