Year End Functions

We have the first one now since Covid I think. At a restaurant basically. I'll go for the food and to show face but generally am one of the first to leave as I am not part of the drinking crowd and being the sober guy in a room of drunks is neither fun for me or them.

Ours is 8th December. There was a form sent out to complete for dietary/transport requirements, etc. with a section for "will you be attending: yes/no", there was also text right above that saying that the year end function is compulsory for all employees...

Plus side is that the venue location might put me on a better route home to avoid traffic, so that's a potential positive.

Will leave at the earliest possible opportunity.

We had ours earlier this week.
Was good. Chin-wagged with colleagues. There was an official no shop talk agreement. The free food and drink was great. No pressure to consume alcohol. People behaved well (from my point of view). I left at 22:00, made it home only just on the same day (safe and sober)

Had a decent dinner on Saturday with the JHB team - was quite nice.

We had ours at some sort of party place yesterday. There was loud doef-doef-tss music all afternoon, I couldn't speak to anyone without shouting, people speaking to me had to repeat everything, and the place was packed (a few hundred people, I guess). We got drink vouchers, but the queue at the bar was long at times, and the food was pretty good. I stayed way to long, but didn't see the point in leaving early because the freeway home was gridlocked.

Maybe I'll give it a miss next year. All these big functions are too loud and crowded. The best one we ever had was a laid-back afternoon at Casalinga.

Was it a beach theme? I won't say too much if it was... :p

Got to maximize all your employment benefits , drink till the sun comes up, drink till you get alcohol poisoning and then claim workmens compensation as work functions should have controls on place to protect the employees.

Yes I agree unfortunately people suddenly think they are invincible when they are drunk and that's where the problems start
Agree, just last week @Craig_ had a terrible accent down at Strand Beach
