Year End Functions

Non drinker here so I find it amusing rather than deal breaking. I can just imagine the consternation it is causing though. I am also wondering what I could sell my tickets for to some of my colleagues. Good part is its a day time event somewhere in muldersdrift on a Friday. If you are gonna pay me to not work, and provide lunch and snacks. I will come check it out I guess. Just very different to the last department where there was no such thing as a limit to the drinks people could order.
I shudder to think what the drinks bill must have been at our retreat this year.

Just found out my new big tech department YE function gives like 3 drinks vouchers to each staff member. After that you pay. Lol.
We've always had this at our YE functions. Sole reason being we're a manufacturing company and factory staff get absolutely tanked if it's open bar. Some years they manage to organize more tickets or buy booze and 6 zamaleks later they're stumbling all over the place.

I'm not going to this year's one. I am ~700km away and have resigned, so my last day is the middle of December. Not much point in that commute...

Been to a couple through the years, always good food and fun chats. But it is costly that travel distance.

My previous company - multi-national industry leader in tech - done this after it was being abused. People were hoarding alcohol and getting obliterated and those that may have wanted a second beer were left with no options, had to settle for a warm one or had to hustle one away from the drunkards.

Also, you let warehouse and technical guys near an open bar and jy gaan kak.

The kindest way I can put it, is that applies to most lower paying roles. You should see what call centre agents, tech support and testers do to an open bar...

This is because low end employees are all alcoholics, especially if you work in tech support

Big day tomorrow. Went to go rent an outfit for the theme we’ll have going on. I’m going all out.

Hopefully this investment will come with a promotion next year.

Ours was last week Friday.
What can I say, I was bored. Bored out of my mind. I managed to leave early, and still stop by the office and hand in all the gifts given in accordance with the anti-bribery policy at work.

What a bunch of miserable people and I am rather glad I did go because alcohol is a great truth serum.
I got to hear things I have been asking about for months. Also managed to piece together how much I have been lied to and how wide the gatekeeping is.

Food was limited to one specific menu, in other words, you could either have a burger, or a fish and chips, and a couple of other things. I must say, for a company with a turnover approaching that of MultiChoice, that sure was the last of the big spenders.

First they got tipsy, then got a bit happier. The "starters" came out, consisting of a cheese board, which didn't last 1m 30s because whomever thought of that was a moron. Oh wait.. I did say they were cheapskate.

Then as the alcohol did its thing I heard that most of the people are unhappy, a lot feel trapped as they can't find work anywhere else, and those that can, are waiting for their December leave then they will be leaving the company, or so they say.

They then became p03s dronk and began to brag about how long they've been with the CEO, and how they started with him in his garage, so clearly I work with a lot of meerkatte, cock-suckers and asskissers. Oh and many who have only been there a year have completely downed the kool-aid, eaten the jug and all the tumblers, the tray, and the table.

What a total bunch of shyte.
