As i was busy looking for more information on those antimalarial pills, came across this.
http://www.thoughtleader.co.za/royjobson/2012/12/15/tips-on-malaria-prevention/ and this:

"It states, “[t]he Medicines Control Council . . . is of the opinion that it is not in the public interest that Nordman Artemisia Anti-Malaria Capsule . . . be made available to the public, and has declared this medicine undesirable.
“The Council further directs any person who-has in his or her possession any quantity of Nordman Artemisia Anti-Malaria Capsule to return them to the manufacturer thereof or to the importer concerned.
“In terms of the provision of Section 23(3) no person shall sell any medicines that have been declared undesirable.”

What this means is that Nordman Artemisan Anti-Malaria has been “banned” by the MCC.

I mean how they can sell a product, that by the look of it, is a lie and is been banned? ****in TIA. Don't know what to do! Everywhere where I'm reading it is a all sorts of problems with different anti malarial pills. Guys should i just buy all sorts of sprays and bracelets and don't allow the little bloodsuckers come near me covering myself from head to toe. Jeez, this vacation starts to look more and more less appealing.

Homeopathic remedies for malaria is stupid, homeopathic is just stupid.

So complaining about the legalities of selling it when it is known to be total BS is kind of a misnomer.

Been taking Malanil for the past 10 years on my travels. What issues have you been told re: Malanil or Malarone? Take precautions, sure - tabard lotion at night is the easiest - and wear long sleeve shirts / pants if you can outdoors at night.

Lastly, have you actually consulted a doctor? No point in taking advice of an online forum if you're not prepared to take the advice of a doctor.

It's really quite simple - you tell the travel clinic where you're going and they tell you the correct medication to take. If you want to use sprays, bands, wave garlic in the air or whatever as well as the antimalarial then go for it. No body enjoys getting bitten by mosquitos but you're trying to avoid getting malaria ffs. 700,000+ people die each year from the little parasite.

Nordman Artemisia Anti-Malaria Capsule is snake oil.

Been reading on the I-net and lots of people are complaining about the side effects of the pills. Also as it is been said here as well, people saying that they don't really work and so on. No, i have not been to the doctor. Was thinking of educating myself, buy the proper stuff and go. But the more i educate myself, the more i wish to cancel the bloody thing and go to a nice country without all the hassles. Argentina for example comes to mind. Also you know what is a point to go to a tropical island with 30℃ and wear long pants and shirts. When i was organizing it, I did not know that will become such a pain. I thought get the shot, get the pills and of you go.

Hi Bwana, is it good or bad. Not a clue what snake oil is.

I know people believe in that sort of hocus pocus but personally I take medicine with a proven efficacy like malarone or larium.

You mean it is a placebo. Is that what you are saying. No, i don't believe in using tic tac as a medicine. But there are herbals that work and i thought that this might as well. You never know.

Ok. If you are going to East Africa (Tanzania / Kenya etc) you have to take malaria tablets. Sprays / bracelets just don't work. Trust me, I work with this every single day. There are SO many mosquitos and they are immune to all these sprays like tabbard / sleep easy etc. I used that, and I got bitten like crazy every single time I have been.

Malaria pills are not the best thing - but it does prevent you getting Malaria, or at least it gives a bigger chance NOT getting it. This is a forum. You need to consult your travel clinic and ask them about the different malaria tablet. There are a few. They will give you the symptoms of the various ones. I used doximal, and I used to take it at night before I go to sleep and it worked like a bomb, no nausea or anything.

Do not play around with Malaria. It is dangerous!

Very up-to-date website - do you maintain it?

I am totally allergic to Larium/mefloquin, so have to do the avoidance thing.

Oops, I'm still alive...
What a tool. That's your argument? The webiste looks crap, YOU'RE allergic to medicine and you're still alive ergo it's a waste of time? To the OP, just go to your doctor and save yourself the confusion. Seriously.
Malaria meds bad for you LOL.
I can't tell you how many people have died from taking malaria medication since I can't find any info - perhaps BigAl can help. What I CAN tell you is....

Apparently the problem is estimated to be double what we thought it was...

Erm, can you give me a count as to how many of those people who died took preventative measures to avoid mosquito contact as to those who took malaria prophylaxis?

I seriously doubt whether any such research exists. Roche would probably be one of those trying to hide it...

Mefloquin is nasty stuff.

Also slightly off topic make sure you've got a supply of greenbacks on hand for your departure tax.

I've never had the time to split hairs over the minor diffs in exchange rates so I wouldn't know. I prefer using the nearest ATM. While Dar has plenty, AFAIK there are two in Stone Town, Zanzi. ATMS give you the bank rate but you pay a fee per withdrawal so do the max the machine can give or as much as you think you'll need to make it worth your while. I'd say get a bit of cash (USD) for taxi and emergency, then get the rest at an ATM - ideally get the taxi driver to take you to the Barclays ATM in stone town on arrival or perhaps get a cab the day after. Worst case scenario your lodge should be able to help.

Another thing, ask about the exit tax when you arrive and make sure you have enough cash for that. They may specifically require USD and don't take card, I recall it was $35 at one point.

Hi Bwana, I got the green bucks. That is not a problem, but i want to exchange 5-6k rand in schillings as well. And just not sure where is better to do it. Here or there. I will appreciate if someone who has experience can advise on it. I got cash, i'm not going to use ATMs while there. Please don't advise on the ATMs. CC cards are for emergency.

Heh! good luck finding somewhere to spend all that money. Anyway when you get there just ask your driver to take you to the bank and withdraw with a credit card. Was using an ABSA credit card at the time (2010) and it cost roughly R40 to draw a few thousand rands worth of shillings.

PS. Enjoy being a millionaire (in shillings anyway). Personally I put it all on the bed and rolled in it :)
