Yellow stain on secondhand car engine

I was hoping to find an answer here.

I'm looking to buy a secondhand car, but I looked inside the engine and saw this:



Looks like an oil leak to me?

oil leak wont be inside the bolt top unless it sprays out .no it looks like wax spray which is sprayed on as a protector sometimes and hasnt been cleaned off before running the engine hot .

depends what you paint is as, after all with enough Paint any turd can look like Gold.

Looks like Tectyl rust preventer spray, though that is a weird place to spray it, is it like a sticky oily substance?

Especially since that's aluminum and won't be rusting any time soon. I am sure some gentleman was admiring the engine and spilt his coffee on it.

Try spraying some brake cleaner and wiping off then monitoring for oil leaks

Also is your accessory belt on the wrong way around ?

Only one way to be sure what it is, sample it by licking it. Most likely black coffee.

the belt is coming around the alternator from underneath then over the top to the aircon pulley on the right .where you can see the ribs is a balancer or tensioner maybe, flat pulley surface
